You know, there's a lot of hate amongst other religions, and the general populace, against Sharia Law.

    But why exactly?

I did some research, and it's not at ALL like it is pictured to be in western media, or what the majority of people hold as it. It actually seems like a pretty good system of laws. IE. You have to be kind to the poor, and give money to them.

Has anyone else come to this revelation? Or do you disagree with me?

Any kind of religious law is a terrible thing. Awful. Bad. Shouldn't exist. Religion should never ever dictate laws. Laws should be secular and governed by logic, reason and morality, not religious text.

Well some parts of Sharia Law are oppressive but it also depends on what interpretation you follow. The only reason it's shown in such negative light is because of things like FOX news.

    Yea.

But Sharia Laws only part thats oppresive, and that people get riled up about, is the whole if your blasphemous. Only very traditionalist Sharia Law people actually kill people who are Blasphemous. Modernists, and progressives about Sharia law are all pretty much in agreement that they can just edit over that part.

And Yes, law should be Secular, but that's not what i'm asking.

Some of Sharia law is pretty much common sense and some other things are things like banking law which I have no idea how that could harm anyone.

Yea. Unfortunately, Very, Very traditional parts are brought up, having to do with execution and amputating limbs and stuff. But it's so irrelevant, it's like bringing up Witchcraft.

So if i go to the kitchen and start baking a cake, i take all the right ingrediants mix them all together, bake it for the right amount of time and after that i will put cherrys on top of it, even some delicous glacing, and then i will put 1 gallon of old fish oil over it. Will you still come and claim that the cake in essence is delicous and that 90% of all ingredients are right. No the fish oil spoiled it! Same goes for laws, if 99% is common sense but there is still 1% evil shit in it then that does not make it a good law system.

Edit:my point is, you can't judge a entire system if you exclude certain parts. If you say some parts make sense but others don't, that means that the system in its entirety is flawed, and can only be applied partialy, if at all. however since religious laws are allways applied as a whole since it is the word of a diety or prophet and is therefore infailable, it is not up for cherrypicking the good stuff.

By that logic, no law system is good.

If you are only able to think in black and white that is.

If we keep the cake analogy, i would say, western law is not spoiled by fish oil, but maybe the cherries are missing or the wrong glacing was used, maybe somebody poured vanile over it instead of chocolate. You can add or change them later, no big deal, not optimal but you will still enjoy eating the cake. As i edited late, religious laws are not debatable, they come directly from a diety or prophet, you don't get to change their words!

So let me ask you: Do you support capital punishment? What about insurences being able to deny people coverage for pre-existing conditions? And the indirect nature of the electorial system? The abilities of super-pacs? The ability of groups to fell industrial empires that provide jobs to thousands with the words "You're racist."?

Irrelevant, whatever my answers would be, the regarding laws are subject to change, in western(secular) law. However they are not in religious law.

I think I'll have to take a pass on that religious laws, I already have science and it's working out pretty well so far. I'm curious as to how far people on the forums would go to prevent it from taking root if their area was actually in danger on acquiring these laws. Hypothetically speaking.

One of the History teachers at my school was saying they took a class which examined the Constitution as religiously inspired law. It was pretty interesting to hear about.

The US is still secular, and will probably continue to be. That doesn't mean that most of their politicians are not more affected by their religious beliefs more than other Western countries. While laws andamendments may or may not be inspired by religion is irrelevant, as long as the minority's(and the majority's) rights are not compromised.

To the OP: I believe any kind of law system(or just a law) based on a religious belief or text is a bad thing. I believe that laws should protect the minority and not just the majority. Religion is not an inheritantly bad thing, but it should not be in possession of power in the legal or governmental system.

We won't cave in to the Muslims. Muslims in the UK have already started to use Sharia Law and are using it in full effect. They should be deported or imprisoned. Religious dogma is always bad. I don't even have to read Sharia Law to know that it is horrible. Not that long ago, Muslims held a protest in London about Danish cartoons of Mohammed, and displayed signs calling for beheading, "Islam will conquer Europe", "British soldiers burn in hell". I've seen quite a lot of pictures of mutilated women and children, people will their hands lopped off, flogging, etc.

I'm surprised this is even up for debate. The barbarians can kiss my ass I will never accept religious law be implemented anywhere near me.

So, religion shouldn't dictate law, but subjective morality should? In a way, that is worse than a law that stems from religious faith, as at least its supporters can claim that it is objectively moral. The only purpose of law is to protect individuals and their property.
That sounds fairly relevant to me.
