So, we got an assignment for science to make a poster on why company's shouldn't use Palm Oil. I was working on it, and my dad asked what it was. I told him, and he asked me if we were allowed to pick the side of the companies that use Palm Oil and explain why Palm Oil use could be a good thing. I thought that was fair enough. That is, until he proceeded to go on a rant about why I shouldn't listen to my "liberal" teachers who are apparently trying to brainwash me into being a treehugger....He then gave possibly the best ending to a rant I have ever heard of in my life. He said, "Anyhow, have fun with your liberal wackadoo project". Needless to say, I almost wrote liberal wackadoo project as the title to the poster, but I checked myself.

I don't think it's even argued that schools have a ridiculously pro-environmentalism bias. Your dad is correct about this.

Palm oil is both good and bad for the environment.
It just depends on what you use it for.

    For example:
Palm oil can be used to make biodiesel, which can be used as a replacement for regular diesel. This is good because regular diesel is made from petroleum (oil product)

However, in certain parts of the world, people cut down huge amounts of forests so that they can build palm oil plants there. Forests which are the natural habitat for a lot of different animals, including orangutans.

Wackadoo? It's a pretty epic thing to work that into conversation.
