I mean, it reached it's peak very quick and now died very quick. Not much has happened in many years, and I doubt it will really come back.
No. Not at all. "According to Nintendo’s internal sales figures, the Nintendo DS family of portable video game systems has sold more than 47 million in the United States since the original model launched in November 2004. That tally makes Nintendo DS the nation’s best-selling video game system of all time."[1] As you can see, handhelds are VERY much alive. With the 3DS coming out this year, Nintendo will likely annihilate the bank of hundreds of gamer mothers across the country. So no, portable gaming isn't basically dead. In fact, it isn't even kind of dead. [1]http://www.videogamesblogger.com/20...4-million-total-ds-sales-47-million-total.htm[1]
What on earth are you talking about, Mobile gaming is reaching an all time high thanks to modern phones, ithe iphone and android marketplace serve tons of games, and it does count as mobile gaming. The Nintendo DS is still going strong and rumors of Sony and Microsoft working on a new portable console each. Mobile gaming is only going to get bigger and is far from dead. Then again I still play halo wars so what do I know?
Meh, most of the people who play DS are the people who buy it to play nintendogs or some shit and then never buy another game. Consoles and PC have real gamers and quality games (especially PC)
817.49 million DS games sold to date. 695.37 million Wii games sold to date. 353.8 million 360 games sold to date. 315.3 million PS3 games sold to date. You're killing me, bro.
Japan does produce most the of the quality Nintendo games, and I don't mean Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. Those go without saying. I mean the excellent eastern RPGs like Fire Emblem. You heard when I said quality games, right? Market share doesn't make something good. Thats a bunch of dumbfuck little kids and people who know nothing about gaming. I'll give you an example. My mom has never bough a video game in her life, but she did go out and purchase Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the Wii. Nintendo survives off of casual gamers who have no idea that they're playing complete shit.
But Nintendo between both the Wii and the DS have extremely few good games compared to the other platforms. This is especially true for the DS alone.
I think the biggest selling portable gaming market is actually the iPad, iPhone and iTouch which sells millions of copies of portable games and apps. But I personally haven't played much in the way of 'classic' portable games in years.
But the Nintendeo D.S. has been around for 7 years now, and aimed at the child population. Meaning each is only about $5.00 USD for most of them. And I have noticed it has lost it's popularity since. But the mainstream of it's popularity is basicly gone. I mean, it is a 6th generation gaming consul design, and were on the 7tg Generation. Besides the occasionally PSP, or the new popularity of the Mobile Super-Phones* (Thats right, I said it..), which acctually isn't really the greatest form of gaming considering it will never get greater because it cannot make a decent profit. It's only $0.99 for each game average, and it takes quite a lot to make a 'good' game- or at least, the modern concept of good gaming- and release it, and if it does not sell an extreme amought. I belive that Comrade Downing (JosefVStalin) talked about this in one of his Let's Plays. I think it was one of the Europa IIIs'.
the ds just has the "hey thats selling alot of copies, lets make crap games and make millions" seriously, there is a game called my fireplace. ITS JUST A DAMN FIREPLACE
I think that portable gaming really is going through a bit of a change right now, with all the smart phones people have. The next portable Nintendo (and maybe Sony, it depends whether or not they view the PSP as a failure or not) will probably have a very different premise behind them, likely making them more "phone-y" (phone-ish?). And regarding some previous comments (and wholly irrelevant to the topic) comments about the DS's game quality, I have this to say, Pokemon and Pheonix Wright. That is all.
