I consider them all socialist in their own ways. They all had mostly workers control of the means production.

I would say the one I use would more or less be accepted by the majority of self-proclaimed socialists. Also very few socialists admire the soviet union, socialist china, etc. Unless out of ignorance. Cuba and Venezuela are a different issue, personally, I consider them socialist in part, Cuba to a much lesser extent, due to this authoritarianism hampering workers control.

More or less, society's tend to be on a capitalist - socialist scale in economics.

The situation right now in Greece is so bad, all I can do is laugh. The long awaited Eurozone response boosted market confidence for a week-end. And then we have Italy, Spain and Portugal to worry about. I really want Europe to pull though and achieve new heights, I really do, but I'd best start stockpiling my tinned beans in preparation for one of the biggest clusterfucks this side of the Second World War.

Greece should never have been awarded the Olympics in 2004. Greece should have never joined the Eurozone. Greece should never had let the scale of nepotism, cronyism and government spending turn into a Roland Emmerich-like Godzilla tsunami. I also believe in Europe, and I totally believe that politically integrating the continent has helped more than it has hurt. But, I never thought economic integration was going to be easy, if not near impossible.

The Greeks know what they are doing with that referendum! They've invented democracy!

Nah, just kidding. No one actually expected that, most Greeks would likely vote against the deal, and I myself am against referendums...

Either way, if the referendum passes or not, Pasok is finished as a serious center-left political party for years to come.

If Greece fails, I fear a cascade of other countries will follow. I always wanted to go to Greece. but now I think it won't be a good idea, since there seems to be a general strike every month or so, and everything in the country shuts down.
