Why does anger have to have anything to do with it? Not that I question your whats sure to be a long history of looking after children. Anything you do to punish your child has to have some sort of "pain" attached to it. Whether it's just annoyance that they aren't allowed to use their favourite toy or the isolation of being stuck in a room with nothing in it. Everyone tries to teach kids values help them try to be all they can be. Or your like this

Now, that would definately induce psychological problems.

Exactly. I mean as long as you don't touch them it's TOTALLY fine for their psychological development.

Insulting or beating your child is pain and punishment on a whole different level than not letting them use their favourite toy or not allowing them to go outside for a while.

One is purely punishing them, the other one is taking away privelages. The children want to be rewarded when being good, do you think any normal human being sees 'not being beaten' as a privelage, a reward? If your children do so, then you're raising them by fear.

It's a mentality issue, for some Taiwanese parents fear means respect.

Fear is definitely a type of respect, but a very simple and shallow one.

A bop on the head isn't going to cause "psychological damage". People have been doing it for centuries, and we are still turning out fine. It's called character building, and it isn't a complex concept that there's a difference between a bop and brutally beating your child.

It's true that we've been doing it for centuries, and it does work but I think we've moved to a time where we understand more and we can raise our children without having to physically punish them and that it's more effecient to not beat them.

You simply disagree with me, you just felt the need to be an insufferable, disgusting douchebag about it. Good for you.

What do you even mean though? Are you just stating that this is how it is for some people or are you taking a side?

    I'm just wondering, no temper.

It's just how it is for my friends and family, and even me to an extent. Not really taking a side or anything, sorry for the confusion.

I guess that martial discipline works best during the stage of development when their minds are based on the punishment/reward system.

You always think that you ended pretty well regardless if you were beaten or not.

This is very very true and I doubt anyone will easily give up their opinion about wether it's right to beat your children or not. Those who were beaten as a child will think it's ok, those who were not may think it's not okay.

    No less an interesting topic.

Well I was spanked a lot when I younger but there was a system. I do something wrong I get a warning, do it again i get hit then they explained why they did it. I supposed I feared my dad at first but it turned into respect soon enough.
