@ The Shaw 4,5,&6 are valid points. The rest is trash thrown out by people who don't understand the easy-to-comprehend structure of the platform. Take # 1 for example: once a console game goes out, it can never be played again. But I can get a patch online to play a game like X-Com on a computer that uses Windows Vista. @ D3adtrap You bring up a good point - for all its weaknesses, the PC will live on. I was thinking about doing a point-counterpoint, but then I didn't feel like it. *Applaus to you*
Or what ever form of "PC" in the future. But consoles wont ever "beat" them. Sales numbers are the only thing that matter in this day and age, this is where mass consumerism comes in and it affects HC gamers in a negative way. That being said, I still thing PCs have better games, but would market consentrate bit more on PC we would have fantastic games.
1. I had the xbox first. 2. That is irrelevant to me. 3. Okay. 4 & 7. If I have friends over, we all aren't going to crowd around the pc and watch somebody play hearts of iron or something. We will play some split screen gears, cod, or madden or something. 5. Okay. 6. Yes.
Typos going rampent. Anyway... I don't know if every game developer can convert to PC. And the PC still has the problem of lack of appeal to early gamers. @ The Shaw 4&7: They are called laptops.
When your friends come, PCs are no less capible of allowing you play games. Plus there is less of a problem with screen sizes.
So what my friends are all expected to haul around pc's with their own copies of games in the event that we wanna play a game? Fuck that. Nobody is that much of a douche.
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. If one of my friends is at my house for whatever reason, or the other way around, we can be all like "Yo you got that new game? let's play it up!" And BAM! We are all playing and having fun. With a pc you would have to already be playing the game in the loneliness of your own home and then notice that one of your friends is on steam and then play online with them, but not "with" them. Boring.
I understand your position, I am simply stating that the effectiveness of the PC is not as hampered by portability as you portray it to be.
Yeah, if you planned ahead some sort of gay ass game night with your friend. But why the hell would you do that when you could go online?
That rebuttal makes no sense. Online is the heart of multiplayer for the PC. If instead you asked why one would prefer to plan ahead rather than just go to their friends' house to play cooperative on a splitscreen, it would make more sense. To that I would point out that even friends are playing their games together online from within their own homes and they meet face to face to play on the same console less and less. Whether this is a practice to support or not is another debate to be had.
Have you ever even had friends? Don't you understand what I'm saying? If I'm at a friends house doing whatever first and then we decide to play some games, it would be more practical to play on a console, as a console can support multiple people on one system, than to have to be carrying with you a laptop with some games everywhere you go. But I'm sure your social revolves around your pc, so you wouldn't understand.
Yes, I have friends. As a matter of fact, it was only recently that I have made the transition to PC. And not by my choice either. My Xbox360 broke. Again. I forget whether it was the second or third that I have had broken and returned it [the store that I go to has an awesome return policy]. I actually want to get another Xbox360 to cash in on the multitude of games that I still have lying around, gathering dust. This is the 'investment' part of my earlier arguments about the PC and its lack of early-gamer-appeal. I should stress that I understand what you are referring to in terms of the convienience of the console and the fact that you can choose when, where, and what to play when you are at a friend's place. I've been in that position and get into that position still, from time to time. My point was that later on, when you want to encorperate an abaundence of other gamers from outside of your friend circle and you want a challenge on the open online forum, the PC tends to be more logical an approach. The PC also allows for the dictation of the quality of the gameplay and the kind of game that you play. There is not a single game on the console that I can think of at the moment that cannot be played on the PC in terms of real difficulty with the controls. Earlier on, the console may be more convient, but later on, the PC is better for some things. Your argument about the portability has merit, but not that much as to make the console superior in every way. And there is a laziness point to be made with the counter-argument.
Did I ever express the conviction that you would be? If a random diatribe from an unknown person on the internet can sway you without you having life experience on the matter that serves to persuade you moreso than the argument and the rant serving only to make you recognize that which you already knew, then I should be disposed to feel sorry for you, for you will ever be 'on the fence' about everything. I have not provided clear and convincing evidence. I have only said that which I do know and that which I do believe. Never enter an argument in which the nobody has any great stake and expect to win or convince the other side. This is particularly true of the internet and its own anonymous nature. And remember that truth is always subjective, even truths.
Point of view. Irrelivent though. As long as it serves its purpose, I cannot care less about what it is or is not.
