Now that Thanksgiving has past, we can reflect on the stupidity of this holiday. Though most holidays can't claim that their only point is overeating and football, Thanksgiving celebrates Manifest Destiny.

How could you celebrate something that your country has failed in doing?

What do you mean by "failed"? We started in the East and than spread West, which is Manifest Destiny. In less your talking about how we didn't conquer all of North America (Mexico and Canada).

Thanksgiving celebrates the harvest of the past year and has existed in America long before Manifest Destiny and was even a part of several European cultures before it came to America. While it is historically directed at G-d it has taken a more secular tone in the past few years. I can only assume that you pulled the Manifest Destiny idea out of your ass in some poorly thought out attempt at America bashing.

Manifest Destiny was dictated much later I agree. But Thanksgiving celebrates when Pilgrims had a bad winter one year and negotiated with the Indians. After that the Indians lands were taken from them and series of Indian Wars broke out because of religous fanaticism and greed.

Your connecting dots that don't exist. The two events are wildly unrelated and I still don't know where you got Manifest Destiny from. At this point I'm just going to write you off as pseudo-intellectual

The pilgrims were able to find a location to settle at first because of the local indian population being infected with the "indian fever." William Bradford was the famous leader of the pilgrims who set up the Plymoth colony and the Mayflower compact. The Original thanksgiving occurred in 1621. Only 1 year later Standish's raid occurred. Which was when Myles Standish set up a militia to help defend against an indian threat. He soon realized this threat was not there so he decided to strike the indians unnecessarily. He learned prominent leaders of the local indians into the house where he killed them. After that incident indians fled from their villages. Sounds similar to a Manifest Destiny sort of thing. Edward Winslow took advantage of the native americans and set up a temporary peace treaty so they could stock up for an eventual war against the indians

Thanksgiving is about spending time with your family and Giving thanks to whatever we have and be thankful for it, we started it because The pilgrims here were starving through winter and they asked the natives for help, they agreed and The pilgrims survived, they were thankful for the strangers help and had a great feast with the Native Americans, It has nothing to do with Manifest Destiny.

that's exactly what I'm talking about, Manifest Destiny is the idea that you should reign over all of North America, and you didn't, therefore, it was a failure.
