Depends. Some of the USSR flags are just rediculous. Others that I have seen have a nice natural look to them as the red is less red and more of a moderate scarlet. Its pretty easy on the eyes. If you take it from a purely artistic view. If you mix politics into it... well, that can be another matter.

Its not just undoing what has been done, but remaking the social condition. Making people believe in other things, not just doing away with the old or current thought.

I agree about the red/yellow British-inspired flag. THAT hurts the eyes, no matter what your ideology. And it doesn't occur to me as a respectable flag. Its like a photo negative of the original inspiration with a new, eye-offending coat of paint.

Whereas Tea Partiers are all politically informed, have a clearly stated goal and purpose, and the organizational coherence to work for it, socialists are just angsty ideologues. Anarcho-capitalists are just as bad, unfortunately.

Generally it's because the state interferes with the free market and the free market is the most effective means to distribute resources. There's also the whole monopoly of force thing and more philosophical justifications.
