I start of by saying, that I wanted to talk about Finnish school system, but upon realizing that it would be rather limited subject, I decided to name this School & Education so we can discuss this subject in general.

    --- Honorable mention ---
TYTUniversity is great channel, in which students post Vlogs and Ana commentates with crew (and reports news)

Anyway I kickoff this thread by few videos, about Finnish education. Oh and here is some reading material

L.A.U.S.D (Los Angeles Unified School District) is by far the shittiest school district in the world.

Ronald will no doubt try to fill your young minds with stories of 'self-education' and 'at-home learning,' but pay that no heed. Education is primarily cool because academia, and the resultant intelligentsia, exists. To destroy institutionalized education removes the best part about the whole thing: the elitist attitudes, societies, and ideas that exist because dumb people are rightfully recognized as worthless.

Also, now that I'm done with that disgusting compulsory education business, I feel like it's my duty to institute unfair, draconian policies on those damnable youths. Better watch your collective mouths or you're going to end up like Japan!

I think the reason Finland has such a good education and does the best on the tests is because its not very populated. Congrats to Finland though

You know how China has a "good" education. Well they don't let everyone take the test

That does not take away the fact that the Chinese are considerably smarter than the average American.

Gen. Carthage is right. It is not China that does better, but China (Beijing).

I like our school system here but I believe education including university should be free for everyone. If I want to go to McGill University it's 3500$/year for in province and 7500$ out of province, this is outrageous. What do Americans pay in tuition?

Well sorry but that's just bullshit. It doesn't matter how big a population a country have, but how you govern/ administer it. If the US(or any other nation) raised taxes they could do this as well. Most people just don't want to pay for the education of someone else's kid.

Some of the universities I can get into run about 40K a year, but the average package from them is 20k+federal aid.

Wow that is a lot of money, the average tuition in Quebec is 2000$. How much federal aid do you get on average?

Well that's why you have the individual states take care of that state's education program. If you're too big of a country to function properly you have to federalize which the US did.
And that wasn't really the point. The point was that as long as people don't want to pay you'll not have a good education system.

Yeah I have heard about them... But in Denmark they are just for rich kids or the ones with ADHD.
You know that costs a lot of money right? If you want a society with a lot of social mobility you need a good public school system.
In other words do you think it's fair that a child can't get an education if his parents are poor?
