I once had a teacher who went on a gigantic rant about the failing horror genre. To sum it up in a couple sentences, when he was asked if he liked "Saw" he said, "I do not enjoy torture porn. Yes, that is what you watch. You go to the movies to get off seeing other people brutalized." Do you agree with his statement? I do.
Horror films have become an instrument of cash making. They aren't good anymore. Come to think of it, they were never good, they were simply new and interesting back when, well, they were new and interesting. The only "horror" movies that have any quality to them are psychological thrillers, shit like The Mist, The Others, and 1408. Hopefully they will come to overshadow the stupidity that the weak minded like to cal l"horror movies". Yes, I do agree.
Yes the most of the horror movies are just torture porn at this time. It's sad becouse the old ones like halloween are getting shitty remakes that are that are nothing compared to the originals.I'd want to have some new genre like a mix of a thriller and a slasherr flick and that to be spread like torture porn.
I can sum up most todays horror movie with a few lines: Hot girls. Black guy dies. Torture and nudity.
Even bad psych movies are better then most of today's crap, and better than those crappy slasher movies in the 80's and 90's.
I much prefer Asian horror movies. Japanese, Thai, so on. Asians make some pretty damn good non-torture porn (and also torture porn) horror movies.
Well, since we're going the route of horror movies and Chelsea brought up foreign ones, I'd thought I'd recommend a Korean movie called "The Host". If I had to equate it to anything well known it would probably be closest related with the "Jaws" movie, although the Host is significantly better. Just be sure to watch it in Korean with English subtitles.
For the record, the first Saw was really, really good. Unsurprisingly, when the movie was written and designed to be a one-off, and then you make 8 sequels, they tend to get shitty.
Yes. The first one had a huge psychological dilemma, the rest are kind of like, "Cut off your face, shove it up your ass, then eat it."
I I agree, people go too see horror movies too see the people get mutilated and killed in various different ways. Its these explic images and creative methods of torment that attract us. This grunge and ddark style is what gives horror films their own genre.
CRAP! i pressed the NO button in the vote, but horror movies these days are just porn. But there are few gems in the dirt and you have to look for them
My ex girlfriend's brother collects all the Saw films and he told me once that he loves all of them. I replied that he needed to get out more.
