So the senate just added a provision allowing for Americans to be held indefinitely. All that is left now is for the White House to veto it and the Supreme Court to declare it unconstitutional.

Thats another thing. The Supreme Court would just instantly declare it unconstitutional if it ever ever got passed and for some reason Obama did not veto it.

    For the record they
Nope.... The unless you can provide me the amendment with the actual text to deny this but I just spent the past hour combing through amendments... What the Senate did do was they rejected an amendment that would limit the authority of the armed forced to detain US citizens. That said it isn't overtly stated anywhere in this bill that they would be granted that power. People are arguing that it doesn't expressely prohibit it which is why they proposed the amendment, but given the Obama administrations stance on this it seems unlikely that they would interpret the law in such a manner. If you feel like writting your sentator about the issue here is the roll coll vote list on the amendment.... http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=112&session=1&vote=00214

5 republicans voted for the amendment, and 12 democrats voted against it...

This is also true, however it would seem likely that the court would be willing to issue a writ of certiorari on this one as it would violate other precedents it has set. Also, bear in mind the legislature has no power to enforce laws, so even if this gets through Obama's veto the administration would still have to be the one to enforce it, which given it's statements on the issue, it seems unwilling to do

Well the bill S.1867 passed in votes for 93 and againts 7. I hope that the people thinking about the law, THINK REAL HARD, make the right choice and throw it to a trash can, before it can be made into a law. Oh the bill name is National Defense Authority act, if you guys want to look it up

The Terrorists won, by making the US paranoid and suspicious of its own people. And the only hope of getting out of this, is fucking Obama.

Bill passed, but the whole "Being denied due process by the military." thing was removed. Now we wait and see how SOPA plays out.

Can you cite that? I'm wrapping up my piece about s. 1867 and haven't read anything about them removing the detention clauses.
