Yeah I know I'm mostly cracking jokes, if you think of the scale of their empire and the fact that it lasted so long, its amazing.

If only the ottoman empire tried to go to the "New world" would have loved to seen the look on Columbus's face when he saw a bunch of ottomans and native Americans praying in front of a mosque.

Now there is a question I propose to you, what do we do about the sick man of Europe?

You could say the Greeks basically colonised Italy, if you don't count the "barbarians" that were there before.

After years of countries controlling the Greeks you could say "They were originally white". I personally think that. Greeks today are not considered "ancestors" of the ancients.

The best thing was to make sure the Ottoman reformed more rapidly and dealt with the Russian aggression sooner then later, and to have crushed the revolts that occurred in Egypt. although by even the 1700s the empire was doomed its just that Europe was distracted by other affairs and thus the sick man was allowed to stay.

It was a lot more complicated than that. It was only Russia and the Habsburgs that could attack them directly, and the Western European powers didn't want them to get any more powerful, so they supported the Ottomans. It was all about the status quo.

Though by the end of the 1700s, the countries of Europe just slowly took apart the decayed ottoman empire, infact had the French/Russian alliance invaded the ottomans, they would have suffered the same fate as the holy roman empire. its just that Europe would have more ability to deal with the ottomans faster if it wasn't for situations in Europe. Propley the best thing that happened to the Ottomans was the German Empire which helped prop up the Ottoman empire and quite possible might have preserved what was the remainder of it had they won in 1914.

IF they had won in 1914. If the Ottomans had stayed out of European affairs(or the other way around) they would have survived a bit longer.

Perhaps a more stable middle east would have came out?

I would say no, the tensions were already there, and the Ottoman state was already doomed. If they had introduced a federal on maybe even confederal government they might have made it, but nationalism was on the rise throughout the 19-20th century and I think they would have eventually collapsed in civil/ethnic war like Yugoslavia.

Although I don't think it would have been as extreme had they won in world war 1, we would have seen a radically different ottoman empire but they still would have had regional control of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Although the Arab question would always be there.

Perhaps, but look at Yugoslavia. They united(most happy) in 1918, but were ready to kill each other in the 40's.(these guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_State_of_Croatia)

Which they needed a strong central government to keep them in line, although the power of the austro-hungarains was weaking, and alot of Germans in Austria where willing to go live in the German empire, eventually Austria would have been absorbed into the German empire, and the poles would have become such an increased majority in the empire that it would be a Polish-Hungarian empire.
