the IG are not all conscript troops, many worlds have many different training types. cadia train from when they can first hold a las rifle, death korps of kreig train for years in the worst possible environment on trench warfare, the soldiers of most death worlds train by the living there. may i also point out that an empire's standard SD has about 6.9 terratons of weapon energy, while an imperium frigate has 6 terratons of weapon energy. if that scales up then we see that the empires ship of the line is very weak compared to the imperiums ship of the line
What a wonderfully backed statement. Which, once more, you have failed to post and cite. There is a prime difference between commonly known information that does not have to be cited and in-depth information that has to. The IG is not all consripted. Many join willingly. Experience?! Again, the Imperium has had 10,000 years of constant, open warfare. The GE doesn't even come close to that. Provide the proof of weapon output, comparisons, application to the universes and battle tactics, and cite sources. Also, I would like to remind everyone about the perameters of this thread.
For weapon output, at least for land forces, the Imperium would win. While the IG and Stormtroopers have somewhat comparable weapons, the bolters the Imperium has access to can pretty much beat any handheld weapon the Empire has.
the imperiums ground weapons are very good and easier to use and supply. las weapons don't even need resupply since the ammo packs can be recharged with light or heat in a few hours, and at about 120 shots per pack that means a guardsmen has pretty much unlimited ammo. a guardsmen's water bottle can last for weeks when it's used with hydro pills. i'm not even going to get into support weapons and support armor that the IG have, let alone the IG storm troopers and veterans stuff.
Then who are the regular troops? In the movies and games, I see nothing but Stormtroopers being used as regular troops.
I honestly don't know what the regulars are called, but I DO know that there is a common misconception that STs are the common troopers. I think that they are just called the Imperial Army or some such. And of course you saw STs primarily in the films. The films dealt with the most delicate of matters for the GE: defeating the Rebellion. As a matter of fact, you don't even see just ANY STs in the films, you primarily see the reminents of the 501st, an elite group of STs that were made during the Clone Wars and served as one of the elite clone regiments.
But weren't the Stormtroopers continuations of the standard Clone Troopers? These sure didn't seem elite to me.
Well: 1. Plot armor 2. Yes and no. Most of the clones became STs, but the STs themselves were mostly volunteers recruited from the lower ranks. Cloning itself became less and less used after a battle on Kimeno in which the cloners there started making clones to fight the GE and the GE crushed them. After that, the clones were taken, as the 501st Journal put it: Some time after that, cloning just declined to the point that the volunteers outnumbered the clones. Edit: So... someone going to pick up for Star Wars or what? And then there is the matter of the Spaarti clones: During the Clone Wars, not all clones came from the Kimenoians. To bolster the ranks of the clones, Palpatine gave the DNA of Fett to the Spaarti, who created what amounted to 'budget clones'. The Spaarti clones were vastly inferior to their Kimenoian counterparts, charging headfirst into enemy fire, not taking cover, lacking 'creative thinking', etc. They were so bad that the ratio of clone to droid deaths dropped from 1-40 to 1-5 and the Kimenoian clones, particularly the ARCs and Clone Commandos, noticed the change. By the war's end, the majority of clones were made by the Spaarti since they were cheaper and easier to produce. The rebellion at Kimeno and the refusal of the Kimenoians to create further clones for the GE caused a reliance on the lesser clones of the Spaarti. The Spaarti then became STs. That is, until the GE switched to volunteers.
