These are the historical figures I have to choose from for my world history project...

Barack Obama, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jong Il, George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin, Robert Mugabe, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The only one's I can see being historical figures at this point are Mugabe and Chavez...

Well tech Putin hasn't been in power for quite some time, same with Bush, and they both affected a great deal of influence over the world.

I'd say the man who started the international war on terror, probably will stand as the single biggest figure head for anti american sentiment worldwide for years to come, strengthened the power of the executive to near unprecedented levels and who's economic policies arguably caused the 2nd biggest economic collapse of the past 100 years would qualify as a historical figure. Putin did a whole heck of a lot less then Bush if you think about it.

    You make a good point.

edit: at the current time though I would not call Obama a historical figure yet considering he is our current leader.

Whoa, Americans and their ego. LOL

But truly, what did you expect? America doesn't really have a old history per see, but they DO have lots of famous historical figures from the 18th/19th and 20th centuries.

Thats the thing though. It was not supposed to be American historical figures just historical figures in general. It would have been nice if we could choose figures you know older than the last 50 years,.
