Yep, the indictment dates as far back as 2005, although you could still question why pull the trigger on it right now. I'd still say that even the trigger pulling was planned long before SOPA became an issue

Actually you could probably very easily just host them in Seychelles and/or Hong Kong.

nope. let's face it, what kim dotcom did with mega upload. Is pretty much illegal in every country with acces to the internet(184 members of the DMCA). Megaupload was a international crime organization who profited from largescale international piracy and refused to take any action against this.

Actually the Swedish authorities arrested 3 persons and confiscated several servers in 2006. The problem was that TBP had backup servers and reopened the site 3 days later. I actually think the leaders fled/moved to Thailand to escape persecution.

Piracy harms no one other than big fuck off companies, and it hardly effects them either. I don't see why the average joe should have a strong opinion on the matter. They should fight for piracy to be made legal so that their tax doesn't get spent on combating it.

that is redicolous. piracy harms directly the intelectual/scientific progress. While big corporations(entertainment) might not be affected as much to be closed down, it significantly hurts the small guys (indy bands/developers, fresh and young artists etc.) also if you make it legal to blatantly get music/games/movies/etc. for free, who in their right mind would pay for it? sure you might get effects like in the humble indy bundle. But big AAA titles for games cost 10s of millions of dollars to make. who would invest in such things if in the end you will loose money on it? No, piracy hurts directly original ideas by withholding a profit from it. In the end its artists who are employed at your so called fuck off companies and guess who will get fired if theese fuck off companies have to close down?
Gabe Newell once described piracy as a service problem and he is largely right about that. But to capitulate before this service problem is the lazy and the dumb way.
