So a teacher at my middle school was fired today ( dont remember what she teachers ) But the class was learning about sterotypes and for bellwork which is 1-2 question quiz that you have to finish before the bell which is basiclly a thing encouging students to be on time. Anyhow she got fired because the question was... Q. What is the, Laziest race, Most Athletic race, and smartest race. A. None. All are the same. And some prick wasn't paying attention to the answer and complained to the princible. So now she is fired... Does she deserve to be fired or not, and was it racist?
Teacher "what race are you" me " The human race" but no she didn't deserve to be fired, although I would like to see someone make an argument for another choice other then none.
That is messed up. If you feel strongly about it, I would suggest going to the principal or coordinator, or just any nice teacher and clarify the situation.
It was an inappropriate question, but, no, she should not have been fired. The question is... questionable, but it provided for the one taking it to accept and answer that can be accepted by all. And I don't know what she meant by it, but it very well may have been meant to intro to a lesson into how people are all a part of the same race, that race is just an illusion, and that tolerance is the best idea. I have come across tests like this, though nobody got fired over them. I think that those who fired her were just trying to cover their own ****s and not have to deal with the radical race-concerned people. I disapprove of how they handled the situation. If you come across any official news on it [news articles and such] please post them here.
My thoughts exactly. It was crudely presented, but clearly not intended to be racist, quite the opposite.
Now, if the question had been "What race is the best at basketball?" or "What race can jump highest?" the answer would have been black people. But for a question like that, that answer is perfectly fine and acceptable.
In all seriousness, I dont know how you can fire that teacher for being racist. You need to ask the principal why he actually fired her. If you are up to it, maybe get people from the class to sign something saying they didnt think it was racist if they didnt.
IDK for sure but some kid might have told there parents and they got a twisted version and then they complained to the school.
She should not have been fired. The kid didn't read into the question enough and threw a fit. She should get to stay.
She should have seen it coming though or expect that something bad would happen fuck it she could have just went all out and put hundreds of racist questions.
Did they even bother to ask any of the other kids if they thought she was saying a racist question? Your school system is pretty messed up if they fire someone the minute an idiot comes and says a question was racist when it intended to do just the opposite.
Why does this shit happen? Why are people so anal when it comes to racism? Personally, I wouldn't have gone with a shitty answer like "all are the same", I'd actually write down the appropriate stereotypes, because I'm not incredibly boring. I seem to be the only one who finds it hilarious. The teacher should not have been fired.
The question by itself is questionable, but with the answer it's definitely not racist and is actually laudable. And Toast, people are 'anal' about racism because racial abuse is not pretty and propagating racism can incite violence. Just look at Libya. There's ethnic cleansing going on there against Black Africans by the rebels.
Of course if you're being ironic, fair play. I was really talking about the teacher. A teacher isn't going to be laying down some ironic stereotypes for middle school children. At least I don't think they would. What are US middle school years?
