Hello all, 17 year old from Singapore here. I've been following the youtube channel and site like a creepy lurker for a while now (Did I mention that lurking is sort of like my specialty? XD) and only recently decided "Why the hell not?" and signed up with the forums. A bit about myself, I'm currently a year one Polytechnic student. I like gaming, especially strategy games such as the Total War series. 4X games are awesome as well, especially those in space like Sins of a Solar Empire. I play some FPSes, but I'm not really too good online. I also enjoy writing (fantasy and Sci-fi. Alternate History if you count some Total War 'fanfics') and playing the guitar. Speaking of music, my preferences are geared towards alternative stuff (like Muse), electronic (Like Owl City), pop rock (like almost every other band on my itunes) and classical (If the 100+ play count for Pachabel's Canon in D is any indication). Anyway, I think I'd best stop before I start writing my entire life story.
Oh, basically I play a campaign and I do my best to write a story following the events with every single one of my 'you know, this would be cool' whims sounding dramatic and serious. So it's not really a fanfic, thus the term in inverted commas.
Hi, btw, I couldn't write such things so cheers... And that would be for 2 reasons: I suck at TW, I understand all the controls, but I can't seem to get the right tactics I suck at writing (unless it's on more sceintific matters, and even then...)
Sort of, yea, though with a lot less research and since I'm playing on DarthMod, not entirely realistic.
Welcome. Have a good look around the forums, you'll find many threads that interest you. What is Sins of a Solar Empire like? I've been meaning to play that game, but have never got round to it.
It says for 12+ on the box, but I can't really imagine 12 year olds playing it. Graphics are simplistic, but the ability to zoom out to see the whole region and to zoom in to see individual ships is worth the exchange. There's a tech tree much like Total War but the progression is in real time. The space fights are cool, especially when you amass a huge fleet and throw it at the enemy. It's not so heavy on infrastructure, but you still need stations to research civil and military technology as well as upgrading...Not sure what it's called, but you have to upgrade something to increase your fleet capacity, which I think is pretty cool. No spamming ships in early game there. You also need buildings to get resources from asteroids and another cool feature is the ability to hire pirates to attack your enemies. However, so can your enemies, so it's really a double-edged sword. And thanks to everyone for welcoming me to the forums!
How long do battles take? How "epic" are they? Do they involve masses of units across an enormous battlefield? O and have your first like for a swift and detailed response .
Well, when I say epic, I mean visually epic. Don't expect some complex acrobatics from the frigates. =\ Sometimes I want to yell at them because they refuse to go above a planet and instead go around it. And the battlefield it usually around a planet or a cluster of asteroids. I'm not too good with scale, but I think it's big enough for me. At least, I can usually have multiple fleets piling on a lone, unfortunate enemy ship. XD And thanks!
