Any version of this game (minus the GBA version) is beautiful. Rich character development, nice and simple combat, hard fights, rewarding gameplay, and memorable game music make this my favorite RPG of all time.
Pokemon is a classic, and Skyrim is a good game. In Pokemon there is lots of customization and you can have a different experience every time depending on your party, and in Skyrim there is a lot to do. I wouldn't say they're boring, but they're introductions to the Genre. Have you tried any of the Final Fantasy games? FF7 is the most popular, has a lot of the large scope of Skyrim, and the Party customization/management of Pokemon. However, if that doesn't float your boat. I recommend any of the Bioware games minus Dragon Age 2 because that was really a stain on the game.
Hard to top Mass Effect and Skyrim. I am fortunate enough to have both a good computer setup and large spaces of free, private time, and this really enhances my experiences in RPGs. This also applies to other games of course, but RPGs in particular. If only everyone could experience Skyrim on a good quality, large monitor, with good speakers/headset and on a computer that can run it flawlessly, with all the bells and whistles turned up, and some enhancement ini tweaks and mods to boot. Without disapproving parents/significant others in the next room. Without the pressure of unfinished homework or other work/family obligations. Just you and the game, as the game should be experienced.
