You get the DLC for free if you've pre-ordered the Collectors edition, right?

Edit: Oh, I was so fucking close to doing what I have told I would give away for Lent.

    Fuckin' sweet, suck it assholes.

And my point still stands, some of you who are dissapointed at this one DLC are perfectly fine with buying nine fucking 'map packs' for each Call of Duty that comes out every year. Barely any different from the ones given to you as you buy the game. So, your comment is absolute bunk and you should quit posting filthy, rotten junk that I don't want to read.

Edit: My Lenten challenge is still in play. :D

From what i see this is actually important to the story, while COD map packs are not aligned to the story, the lower class people who cannot afford the pre order collectors edition or addition 10$ for late release DLC have the right to be offended.

    Bioware's response:
As most of you know, yesterday there was a leak that revealed the upcoming DLC “ME3:From Ashes” on the
Xbox LIVE Marketplace. This leak took place before we were prepared to make an announcement about the details of that pack (slated for this Friday).

There has been a lot of discussion about the DLC offering but we wanted to clarify a few things...

    - “From Ashes” includes the Prothean squad mate, an adventure on Eden Prime, a new weapon, and an alternate
appearance for every squad mate. Note that these alternate appearances are in addition to the ones already advertised in the CE.

    - The Collectors Edition has been advertised from the beginning as containing a bonus character/mission, but we were not at liberty to provide the details. The Prothean is optional content that is certainly designed to appeal to long-time fans, which is why he is part of the CE offering (the version many fans would be likely to purchase). Mass Effect 3 is a complete – and a huge game - right out of the box.

    - The content in “From Ashes” was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification.

    - The Collectors Edition has been sold out in most places for some time now, and is becoming very hard to find (many players prefer not to purchase the digital version). As such, we wanted to make this content available so that SE buyers could also incorporate the Prothean into their game.

We’ll be releasing some images and video about this pack in the coming days.

As always, we are extremely thankful for all of your support. We pulled out all of the stops to make Mass Effect 3 the best game ever, and we can't wait for you all to experience it.

People pay $60 for a game a tiny fraction as good as ME3 will be and are fine with it. Personally, I'm fine with paying $10 more for an adequate amount of solid content. Combined with ME3, I think that's more than fair. Combined with the arguments above, I'm actually changing my position and believe Bioware/EA are justified in doing this. TotalHalibut/Biscuit is very good at making this matter seem much worse that it actually is, all the while making himself look like a crusader, a hero standing up and fighting against the big bad horrible evil powerful people. Basically the way I see it now is people expected the DLC to be worthless, and are now angry that it's actually good. Going off TotalBiscuit's reasons (and a lot of the people who are angry), there probably would have been less of a backlash if the DLC was a generic character.

Also a note to Americans/Canadians/Brits: Australians have to pay the equivalent of US$110-130 for new console games (ME3 is currently $117 USD or 74 pounds, Collectors Ed. $138 88 pounds). We're paying DOUBLE what you have to pay.

This sucks. In Brazil, console games usually costs ~200BRL at launch. A PC retail copy rarely get priced past 100BRL, which is worth ~ the 60USD on platforms such as Steam and Origin.

in fact, I just checked ME3 pre-sale retail prices: R$199,00 for PS3/Xbox360, and R$99,00 for PC.
    Go, digital copy selling!

If I remember correctly, that's largely due to import taxes on console games. Australia has no such thing, but we still have to pay the equivalent of almost exactly what you do. Despite the fact that we are a very developed (more than the US, Canada and the UK, according to the HDI), Western country. And that's just the console version, your PC version is 84% cheaper than it is here (R$182).

oh, right... there's that... PC games here are taxed as software, and console games are taxed as... games. Maybe there's more to it, but it's still kind of retarded, if you ask me.
As soon as you said the prices are high in Australia, I asumed it was due to import taxing also. If it's not that, then it sucks even more.

All the biodrones rushing in to defend Bioware. How does EA's dick taste?
ME3 probably won't even be a very good game, anyway.

I see where you're going with this, lower class families cannot buy a shit load of stuff for their kids or for themselves, but it doesn't really make a big difference in this case. It is grabbing money, and I despise it, but as stated before, we just have to go on with it, and it is our choice whether or not to buy things. Atleast we have that freedom. At the end of it all, though, it's just a story. A very good story in that, but still just a story.

Also, I should probably read up on this being important to the storyline... I'm missing out on some things and I know it.
