While autism's effects on the quality or content of a user's posts or arguments is debatable, stupidity and mental retardation's are not. If a mentally retarded person posts something, chances are that it will be stupid. Despite their lack of control over that condition, a retarded person's idiotic statements are not immune to criticism on the basis that their author is retarded. It's a legitimate prejudice, similar to age or sanity.

But I doubt that we have any truly retarded members anyways, and it's far more likely that you've just made a terrible comparison between insulting someone for their stupidity and what this topic is actually addressing, which is using autism as a criticism of someone's positions.

I would also like to take this moment to " censor " words like Nigger and cunt.

Let's say that there was a member on the forum who was conditionally retarded and they made a post that would reflect such. Would it be appropriate to comment on their post saying that it was stupid and idiotic (in polite terms, or offensive ones)? By appropriate, I mean given the particular circumstance of the member and what would be socially expected of them and not the emotional or psychological response it could invoke.

I disagree about the word cunt, while it's typically used as an insulting adjective, it's not considered offensive to any particular group of people (the implied gender not being included).

If someone is mentally retarded and posts stupid things, using their mental retardation as a criticism of their position is legitimate. I can't think that we'll ever get a mentally retarded member, or that even if we do that they will be active in debate.

While it does imply the insulted is female, the insulted isn't derogatorily being called "female", they're being subjected to extreme general contempt.

You can't ask for insults like retarded to be against the rules and then go ahead and say insults like cunt are perfectly fine.

As someone with a form of autism I never really seen it as an insult or a form of bullying to be honest, though perhaps to some it is.
