If God was so good, he would let you go to heaven whether you believed in him or not. He would let you go to heaven based off of your character and your actions, not your faith.
I believe it's a matter of faith and faith alone. I might sound like Kali, but what defines good? God is omniscient and all-good, therefore all his actions are good regardless.
Why should John Smith who murdered 5 people but believed it was all for God that he did it go to heaven, but Joe Schmo, who is a productive member of a society, and saved a kid from being run over by a bus, who does not believe in God, not go to heaven? God has some messed up morals then.
As I have said before, it is based on faith and faith alone. Joe Schmo didn't believe in God, therefore he doesn't get access to heaven. He might do all good and no evil, but good works doesn't get you into heaven. You have to believe in God in order for him to allow you into heaven. John Smith believed in God, but he wasn't sorry for his sins. John Smith says that he killed for God. That doesn't mean God allows it. God gave us a code to follow by "The Ten Commandments" and he violated number 6. He said he killed for God, so that implies he isn't sorry for doing it. He is going to Hell because isn't sorry for his sins.
So, if god went and killed off 50% of the Worlds population just cause he was in a bad moos, would you still consider him all-good?
Ok so let's imply that John Smith does apologize for brutally murdering 5 people and says he is sorry. Why on Earth should he be allowed into heaven? Joe Schmo was a better person, he was productive, AND he saved a child's life, whereas John Smith has ended the lives of five. You can not tell me that if John Smith can still get into heaven, that Joe Schmo won't. If Joe Schmo is not going, then if God is even a remotely decent being, he would never let guy like John Smith into heaven.
He is defined as omniscient and all-good so regardless of what he does it is only good. To Slyfox Doesn't matter if Joe Schmo was a better person or a productive member of society, he didn't believe in God and that is why he doesn't get access to heaven.John Smith get into Heaven because he is truly sorry for his sins and prays to God for forgiveness. It's all a matter of faith. No matter how much good you do, it does not give you access to heaven.
You can't be serious. So systematically exterminating 50% of the population is good? In what universe are you living in?!?!? It's good to know the productive member of society cant get into heaven, but the serial killers can.
To Mosh and Sly I am living in this universe. I can understand your responses, I felt that way too. But I believe in this because I find it more logical. God is all-good, whatever he does can only be good. If God is all-good, then he is not capable of doing evil. You may think it's bad, but that is subjective. He can kill half of the population in china but if he did it, it is good regardless.
How the fuck is it more logical? Why the fuck does a murderer get to go to heaven, but a person that has done nothing but good for the world go to hell? There is no logic whatsoever in that. That sounds like something a kid in Nazi Germany would say about Hitler.
So if god tells me to fly a plane into some building, it morally correct, because he said so. Glad to hear it Also, I am morally obliged to call you a pinhead. This is the problem I have with religion. People like this "KoreanPoet" can be manipulated into thinking, that mass murder is morally correct. Thats a risk we can not tolerate and has to be fought.
I completely and utterly agree. But what are we to do? How do we fight people that completely and utterly believe that their god can do no wrong? Well, they call it paradise, and yes they believe committing terrorists acts will get them their virgins.
On a side note, 16% of Americans say they identify with no religion. Does that mean 16% of Americans are going to hell?
"God is Hitler" - slydessertfox Although I agree with hating those goshdarn biblebashers, you people need to step back a bit. I like how you people accuse KoreanPoet of being easily manipulated and then you propose a literal thought police. That's stupid. You people are the ones that have to be fought. Don't dismiss religion as dangerous because there are Muslim and Christian fundamentalists.
All I am saying is, if you went back to Nazi Germany, and asked a kid if he thought Hitler was bad for comitting mass murder, he would say "Hitler must be right, because Hitler knows what he's doing and Hitler's the greatest." That is the same as the korean poet saying that if God killed 50 million people, it must be right, because he is God.
It has to start at a young age. Children are endangered by indoctrination. There are organisations out there fightintg against that. There is actually an obligation for every child in Germany to take a philosophy class, which almost always tends to be a religion class specific to the religion the kid is brought up with (catholic, protestant etc.). My children wont take any of those, which means, I have to find a school that actually offers other philosophy classes. EDIT: @ Toast Not only the fundamentalist X of religion Y are dangerous. The ideas that are spread by religions are the danger. If someone promotes that you should kill othere because of race/religion/other opinions, you put him in prison. Religion does exactly that. And we do shit....
I am no religious fanatic. In fact, I hate some people in my religion because of their fanaticism. I'm no expert on the Muslim faith, but from what they did, they are not going to heaven. I believe in the "Ten Commandments". I think that nothing you do can bypass this. Saying "God told me to do it" is an excuse for your action. It also "takes God's name in vain" which is the second commandment by saying God told you to commit this sin.
