Were they a favourite? I think with Aguera, Forlan and Suarez they had a good set of attackers, and it isn't too surprising they made it as far as they did.
Are you serious? They had won a World Cup before I believe in the 1960's. They were always a pretty good soccer team.
Uruguay will fade into obscurity in the coming year or so. They don't have much to show for themselves with the exception of Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez.
Well, as I said, Aguero played a very impressive season last year, but indeed, like most South American teams, they're really depending on big names to help them win. The same goes for the Netherlands.
Wrong, a team that was able to win fifteen South American Championships will not "fade into obscurity" anytime soon im sure they re going to kick some ass in 2014
France, England and Italy all won a lot of prizes, and all are minor players now. The world cup is being held every 4 years, which is a lot in a football career. A country would need a constant "supply" of amazing players to be able to consecutively play well at tournaments.
well im sure every single one of those teams are going to make a comeback good players arent rare like diamonds they re more like furnitures at first they re a raw piece of wood but a good carpenter can turn that wood in a good chair capisc?
They aren't going to make a good comeback unless they have the desire and determination to win. Not much teams have that. During the 2010 World Cup, I noticed that the teams that had that were Paraguay, Uruguay, Germany, Spain, Japan and the Netherlands. Teams with great players, like France and England, had no chance against a team that had raw grit and determination. Being a "good" player isn't enough. You have to have the desire to win. England, France, Italy etc didn't possess that and they were overcome.
yea but hunger to win doesnt come once in a life time for a team soon enough some of them will feel that hunger again and eventually they will make a comeback on stage it happens all the time in football
No. By the time 2014 rolls around, I reckon that France and Italy will have got their shit together, as well as England, which leaves little room for extra competition. As Brazil is hosting it, they are most likely going to win it. I'm hoping it comes down to a match between the Argentinians and the Brazilians.
I agree that Italy will probably get their act together, but i think the USA is not to be underestimated. We came very close to being in the quarter-finals last year, which is a big deal for an american futbol team. Plus, 2014 is more than likely the last year for some of our better players like Landon Donovan.
The problem is that Donovan is your only better player. He's fast approaching his mid-30s in 2014. That's troublesome for a forward.
i agree the united states did well in 2006 they could be one of the major teams in 2014 champioship we ll see
Dempsey is pretty good. But I see what you are saying. I think we can do well in 2014 but after that we will be pretty bad.
