This is my take on the whole discussion at hand, my thoughts on the bomb and how it's relevant to 9/11. I'm trying to make myself clear and trying to lead it back to the topic of the thread. Read that last sentence again:

"I don't think 9/11 should be forgotten until this is brought to the American public's attention."

I'm done talking about WWII, that's my point in the first paragraph. Everything else is my stance on 9/11.

I know. I was just trying to say we were arguing over Afghanistan not Iraq, because we all kinda have the same viewpoint on Iraq. Also, Afghanistan was the direct result of 9/11, Iraq came (2?) years afterwards.

Alright, well I know more about Iraq than Afghanistan (although I doubt the situation is considerably different). I feel that 9/11 shouldn't be forgotten until these issues are addressed, and that's the only reason I brought it up.

I understand. The situation in Afghanistan is tricky. Up until the recent debacle, we were winning considerably in Afghanistan. The Taliban had been pushed back mostly into a corner. We are planning to have all our troops withdrawn by the end of 2014.

If we never went to Iraq then we could have pulled out by 2008. Also i don't think half the country is a corner.

That's my point... at that time they had quite a bit of influence and control in at least half the country so they simply weren't backed into a corner. So his statement was wrong.

No they have not controlled anywere near half country since before the invasion, they influence in many parts but not controll. We where making progress against them, but the recent debacles have set us back quite a bit.

I meant they either controlled or influenced half the country, i should have made that clear. I agree we were making progress but we didn't have them in a corner. We haven't really had them on the ropes for sometime. That statement in my opinion is sugar coating the situation. Also consider they have western Pakistan to play with.

True, they are defintaly in pakistan, and maybe backed in a corner is a bit of an exageration, but we were defintly pushing them back. Untill the to recent diasaters, I would have said we coukd have beat them, but now I am nit so sure.

As long as they have a place they can run away we'll never truly beat them. It's like fighting the Thing. Only now the Thing now has bombs and guns

That's an interesting comparison. True, sadly.
