I'm a Technocrat. My idea of humanity is uniformity and rationality, while the Anarchist idea of humanity is hodge-podgery and rule by emotional whim.

Not at all. Whats so impossible about a world where the muffler on Car A is always a perfect fit on Car B?

Humans aren't logical, were driven by emotion and self interest. Most people aren't going to give up their emotions and preferences for logical. I'd love if it were to happen because things would be better, but human nature is going to get in the way.

The actual designs of a Technocracy are entirely reliant on things like human nature and self-interest. As to humans being guided by emotions, you mistake the cultural phenomena of a society inhibited by limits for biology. A man only submits to emotion in a situation where he is denied his mind.

Fair enough. I just can't see the situation where a Technocracy could occur.

I can. It's called North America. It contains the resources, trained personal, and equipment required to establish a basic government of functions. Causation for hesitance to do so? Apathy.

No I mean a situation in where the general populace would be willing to change to a technocracy.

    1. Progress doesn't wait for the consent of the masses. Once conditions are met, change is inevitable.
    2. A Technocracy is not something you can just decide to have. It is the combination of centuries of technological progress that fundamentally changes human society with each step it takes.

So which step are we at now? What is the next step? What was the last? How much time between them? When will we see a technocratic America?

Economic globalization, Continental unionism, and broad information distribution.

    Robots.

Labor saving devices. Agriculture before that.

Assuming we aren't all killed in a resource war?

What about Italy? Do you agree it's a technocracy? It has an economist for Prime Minister & Minister for the Economy who was unelected, and a cabinet comprised only of professionals. Do you support the government there? It's currently pursuing austerity, pushing for further sanctions on Syria etc.

    @Demondaze
this has piqued my interest. Is technocracy compatible with liberalism, either socially or economically?

Italy is a considered "technocratic" in the modern economic terms sense. However, Italy does not use a system of energy accounting or have a government of functions. (Like that would even be possible on such a small landmass.)

Socially: A Technocratic government would have no interest in the actions of human beings beyond keeping us from killing each other.
Economically: Economics are irreverent. A Technocratic society is a lot like a cruise ship with a customer feedback department.

That kind of sounds like the Mass Effect Universe. Would that be an accurate comparison?

    Tsk tsk.
You don't know how to motivate people to your cause, do you?
You have to be able to spell it out to people.
