What is everyone's thoughts here on Eugenics? Before WW2 it was viewed as a perfectly legitimate science. I have to support it's use for one main reason. Modern medicine has ensured that even the most sickly people can live long enough to breed. Now that modern society and medicine has artificially eliminated survival of the fittest, we are left with a weaker gene pool. This phenomenon is known as dysenics. I'm of the opinion that the only way to counter this is through eugenics. By that I mean that people with defective genes should be sterilized to avoid them breeding. Same goes for women who continue to have kids over and over that the state is forced to take care of.
Is this a real problem? Yes, possibly. Is eugenics really the answer? Probably not. Here are a few reasons: 1) Ethics [but you can ignore this one since I would in your shoes, as it is all reletive] 2) The idea is based on the assumption that the weaker ones will be able to procreate to a level that it would adversely affect the society. I would need to see evidence that the research shows that these individuals will have a great success propogating. Scientifically speaking, its not as bleak as you make it seem. People with a disease or illness tend not to have as great success propogating, no matter the nature of the society. 3) Assumption that biology will determine everything. 4) If you have ever looked into the research of DNA, you will have come across the fact that a great percentage of our genecode is made up of unused and useless code. If they were to actually activate, these could potencially destroy the human race. We don't really know which genes these are, what they really do, how to safely eliminate them, or what actually would tragically activate them in addition to a myraid of other things that we don't know about our own DNA. Thus, the idea of eliminating people based on their genes actually doesn't makes as much sense as it seems, since the defective genes may go inactive at any time and we don't really know if killing a person will elimate it from the gene pool. For example, you could be carrying an activator of Down Syndrome right now and not know it. It might not affect you, but coupled with another, a child with the illness may be born. For that matter, the entirety of the human race could be carrying various mutations and other DNA faults that could end our species, but they are inactive and we don't know what will activate them or when or what they will do. Basically, eugenics [ethics aside] may seem the 'proper' path to take, but in reality, its not practical.
You can sterilize all the mentally deficient people you want, but that will never fully eliminate the potential for genetic mutation. It only takes one stray Y chromosome. And it's not like people with genetic defects are breeding en mass anyways.
Oh. How did I forget this one: 5) Mutations are random and pretty much anything from sunlight to the food that you eat to chemicals you consume on a daily basis can cause them. Therefore, the likelyhood that you develop a diffective gene due to a mutation is much higher than developing a positive mutation. Therefore, you would have to kill everyone. AND: 6) What templete for a 'normal' human are you using? Define a 'normal' human.
Which is inheritly impossible, since the moment that they inevitably expanded to different environments outside of Germany, they would probably have encountered the same forces that give people different hair and eye colors as well as different skin colors. It is largely a matter of what is an advantageous color to have in 'X' environment. Something they clearly didn't understand.
That's a dirty lie perpetrated by the Jewish Media of the Evil Illuminati Government of teh Evil Moozelamz. Logic'd.
I believe Eugenics is wrong and will never happen seeing how the people of Earth reacted to the first time a government tried to do it.
Well, eugenics took off in America with forced sterilization and/or isolation of immigrants and people of color and such, anyone considered "feeble-minded". It was supported by people like H. G. Wells, Theodore Roosevelt, and Margaret Sanger, and research was funded by corporations like the Rockefeller Foundation and the Carnegie Foundation. Some of these corporations also funded the eugenics research in Germany. But when WW2 happened, the Germans were evil mass murderers and the United States were the fucking white knights. After that, no one in America was a eugenicist, no one in America supported it, and no one ever did.
Fun Fact: Hitler based his eugenics program on California's. What can you say? Eugenics was just 'in' at the time.
Well looks like your getting your wish, I find it hard to say but a lot of people have started aborting babies that doctors can see are going to have birth defects. Logical it makes sense, survival of the fittest, less stress on the parents and all that jazz but ethically i just it's not really a good reason.
Maybe there was a reason eugenics wasn't considered anymore after WW2!!! I've heard some dirty rumors about something called the "holocaust". But, you know, that can't have anything to do with why Eugenics isn't respected anymore. Oh, and refer to Imperial's post, he seems to have knowledge on the subject.
