Necessities can vary from place to place. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where there is little electricity, running water, food, etc. a laptop computer or other electronic device may not seem a necessity. In the United States, a computer or some eletronic device is paramount in some cases. Without it, you lag behind the competition. Lagging behind = left behind = lose job = no money = basic needs not met. There is plenty of room for interpretation.
I'd like to refine this a bit more. I've volunteered at the food bank in my free time for the last while and let me tell you even in a white suburban town of approx 12 thousand people there is enough poor to cause serious problems. Lack of transportation, parents with money (like our OP undoubtably has) , and local jobs can put anyone in a position where they cannot afford to live anywhere. Welfare does not ensure your comfortable living, and it isn't something that you can rely on(it shouldn't be anyway) . A girl came into the food bank the other day because she couldn't afford to get shoes for her son, the kid also had dental issues that were never going to be fixed. These people don't have a way out, they are trapped and no one is helping them out of their hole. By ignoring these issues we allow people and their future off spring to become involved in desperate action like crime and it ruins lives every day. This ignorant brat of a poster knows nothing about the real world.
With food out there that costs a dollar and plenty of other affordable foods, combined with charity no it isn't possible to starve in America.
While America is one of the richest countries in the world, and the most powerful, people do live in extreme poverty here. I guarantee you go by some on your way to work or school. People are out on the streets here. But I guess they aren't in your fascist utopia.
Well then it's their fault for starving. Any jackass can go out and beg enough change to get some food.
They're apparently really good if you're about to die, so is most food, for that matter, except for celery, fuck celery.
Not to mention people are out there begging for money. If everyone just gave them a fucking dime, we would reduce the number of starving in our country significantly.
And I'm assuming that when they do go and beg, you're the most charitable bastard in the fucking country.
Poverty has, does, and will exist in the United States and the entire world. Some do not want to work, some cannot work, and some cannot find work. It is a fact of life in every economic model that can only be corrected by a true Utopian society. However, Human Nature bars us from that Utopia. Human Nature can be defeated through societial values and ethics but with our current values and ethics, we will never beat back our own barbianism.
Destitution is distinct from poverty. Poverty is relative and exists everywhere. Destitution, or absolute poverty, does not exist, barring outlier phenomena, in the United States or any Western country.
You are posting on an internet gaming forum, so that confirms that you're at no risk of starving, but in addition, if your idea of poverty is having to live in a slightly smaller, heated building with running water, electricity, and food, then you are not poor. You're gonna be fine. you're* If I were him, I would be insulted by your poor grammar. Haha, stay reasonable ideologues.
