sometimes anti-atheists are so stupid that its funny.
also you dont have to believe in evolution to be an atheist.
atheism has existed as long as theism has existed

charles darwin was the first to formulate a scientific argument for the theory of evolution by means of natural selection.
but im not sure how long history of evolutionary thought goes back.

You don't have to believe in anything to be an atheist, but I'd like to assume that us individuals capable of reason would try to apply that reason to their lives and the things which relate powerfully to them and the subject of why or how we exist.

I'm sorry but that's not true.

hint hint: atheism only started to appear in the XIXth century.

I'm pretty sure several Greek philosophers rejected the idea of religion. I'm not entirely sure, though.

so what you are saying is that as long as the human mind has been capable of believeing in deities
it was not untill xixth century that people stopped believing in dieties.
    i find that preposterous.

Well, while it may not be true that atheism simply didn't exist, it probably didn't exist in such a widespread manner. The reason there is so much atheism today is the freedom many people have. Freedom of religion also means freedom NOT to believe in religion. Before the 19th century, you could be burned or crucified or something of that sort for not believing in a certain religion. Now, its accepted that your allowed not to believe. Also, now atheists can talk amongst themselves easier, and can argue with theists much easier. Just my two sense.

Also @Karakoran, I'm not spamming, but this is religion so I supposed it should go in philosophy.

I'm pretty sure there was always people who questioned the existence of dieties . It's absurd to think there wasn't, what they called themselves is irrelevant.

Why do atheists always come across as militant when most religious people reall couldn't give a flying fuck what they believed. Do you think that we are all akin to these douchebags:

If so then that is the most absurd belief.

It may sound like I'm about to preach atheism, I will not. I am here to urge upon you militant atheism. - Richard Dawkins

Can I just point that as far as I know every almost every single thread about religion has been started by an atheist on this forum.
