So I'm struggling with factoring and adding/subtracting and multiplying/dividing fractions, and decided to try the chapter test in the textbook because I have a test tomorrow. Since it doesn't show the answers for this part in the back of the book, I was wondering if you can tell me which one's I got right or wrong, and if I got it wrong, I would appreciate it if you could show me how to do it correctly because I am really struggling with this. /=fraction x2= x squared =/= is cant equal Simplify: Give restrictions on the variable 1.) 5x + 35 / x2 -49 My answer: 5/x - 7 ; x=/=7 3.) 3x2 - 6x - 24 /3x2 + 2x - 8 My Answer: 3 (couldn't find what "x" couldn't equal) Express In Simplest Form 5.) Simplify 1) Correct 2)Answer wrong. You can't cross out 3x^2 at the beginning of the problem. If you don't do that you will get 3(x-8)/(x-4) and x=/=4 I'll add more later. Simplest Form 5) Correct
use more ( )s next time, please =P and, of course, no one is perfect, so it's possible I made a mistake somewhere... check it and let me know if you disagree on something EDIT: ops... you probably already had the test ... haha
I just put this up a couple of hours ago. I don't have the test til tomorrow. Thanks for the corrections.
Oh...right! It's showing "yesterday" here on thread's date, so maybe I have something wrong with my timezone settings.
Well it's the last test of the marking period. The test itself isn't that important, it's just that I got a 72 on my previous quiz, a 78 on my previous test, and a 77 on the quiz we had a week ago. My average right now is a 90, and I wanna bring it back up to a B+
88-90=B 91-92=B+ 93-95 A- 96-98=A 99-100=A+ It's a pretty tough grading system, but we've had it since like 3rd or 4th grade so im used to it. Btw, I think I got a A- on the test. Thanks for the help guys.
If you got an A- it means you get fall of the samurai!!!! And then I can go to your house and mooch off your soda and play games that won't work on my laptop!!!! XD
Oh. Where I live 65-69=D 70-79=C 80-89=B and 90-99=A. We have +/- grades. How does that transfer to grade point average?
65-69 is a D??? How the hell does anyone fail? 69 and below for us is an F. C- is like 77-79, C is 80-81, C+ is 82-84
Yeah our system's weird like that. Also, I got a 74 on the math test. That brought my average down to an 87.
I dont know how I got a 74. I was pretty certain I had at least a B. Usually I could do 4 corrections on tests and get half credit for each one I correct properly, but two factors prevent me from doing this. 1.) I left for vacation in Virginia the day after the test. 2.) The marking period ended today, so I can't do the corrections after I get back. So, overall, in 2 tests and 2 quizzes, I went from a 92 (B+) to an 87(B-).
Grading systems obviously vary very greatly. Without wanting to sound like an asshole, if 88 is a B+ and to get A+ you have to get everything right, then it must be a fairly easy test as well. My school does things the opposite way. They give us super hard tests, then standardize the grading after they receive the results. And I mean hard. My school is among the top few academically performing schools in the country, but the tests they give us are designed so that most of the marks will be around 60-80. I've done tests where above 72 is A+, and the fail mark was 30, because the test was that hard. Normally though, the A+ threshold is around 80-90, and the fail mark is between 40-60. Our system has less scales than yours though, it goes A+, A, B+, B, .... E+, E, F.
I know this is going to sound like a dumb question, but which grade are you supposed you take algebra? Because I took Pre-Algebra in 6th grade, got kicked out, and I have to take it again in 8th grade.
