Well, as some of you may not know, elections, or the first round of voting more rather, are starting a few days from now. Now, predictions have been made that Francois Hollande, the center-left candidate of the Socialist Party will win, but the real surprise here in the days counting down to April 22, which is the date of the election is the rise of the far left which is represented by the Left Front. The Left Front is mainly composed of far left parties including the PCF ( French Communists ) and is led by Jean-Luc Melenchon. The surprise here is thatthey currently are at third place, polling at about 15-20 percent of the vote. So, my question? what's your take on this? Is the far left resurgence good or bad for France? or is it something new brewing in the politics of Europe?

NOW, that is actually quite fitting for a Kaiserreich comment. I applaud you!

No, I was hoping for something more about men on bicycles wearing berets and garlic/onions with a baguette up their backside and shouting disapproving gibberish at foreigners.

    Hey guys!

I'm French-Canadian, so I followed this election with some interest, and wanted to share what I concluded from it with you:

This left-wing party actually isn't different at all from the current party in power (UMP). They just saw that they could win the elections by accusing the government from being the cause of the economical crisis, and saying that they would solve everything.

Also, in France, the presidential election are not considered the same way as in Quebec and Canada.
Actually, the average citizen watchs the elections the same way we would watch Stalin's Crusader Kings Let's play. They watch them to entertain themselves. To pass the time.

They take for one party for no reason, and just hope he'll win! (like we take for the Kingdom of Rus for no reason and hope it will win).

Why is that? 'Cause their medias encourage them to think that way, 'cause it's easier to talk about gossips concerning a candidate than to go and analyse to situation in Iran, isn't it?

So that's it! Just a quick bit of information for you guys.

    -Robotech

P.S: I'd really appreciate it if some people on this forum could show a bit more education. Thanks!

Like in America where we ridicule Tea Partyers. Also, most people are educated, but put a humorous/Dutch spin on it.

I don't know who Francois Bayrou is, what his platform is, or even what party he's in. But I do know you should punch in the Konami Code on his/his party's website.
