The United States of Africa.

So I was thinking, do you think a united Africa would work? Personally, I think it could work, and would benefit most Africans. Ironically, Gadaffi was at the forefront of this movement.

It would give Africa a better position on various levels.

No. It wouldn't work. I'll comment more on why later.

It would not work. Not in a place like Africa. There is still going to be genocide and famine. Because, besides South Africa, and maybe Egypt and other North African countries, all of Africa is a poor shithole. And how do you intend to have a government? For instance, look at Rwanda, where they had a genocide and civil war to decide which one of two ethinic groups should control the government. Imagine hundreds of ethnic groups competing for control. The United States of Africa would fall apart in seconds. Now, I'm all for a united world, but that means a fully united world, because you have to offset the poorer areas with rich areas so that you can actually develop the poorer areas. Now, I'll be fair, it might work in like a hundred years, after Africa has fully developed and stabilized. But for now, it would not work in practice.

Well if the Rastafarian's got it their way. First all of Africa would have to embrace the teachings of Selassie or at least the same religion as it is one of the major reasons for their countless wars. Anyway we already have a topic about this.

Quite; Africa is a frontline between Christianity and Islam to some extent. The more we can promote more 'African' religion and culture, the better. A more unified identity would be ideal for a United States of Africa, but if it is possible, every effort should be made to preserve diversity. However, there is already an African Union, which has probably really come into its own after the end of the Cold War.
That and I think any attempt to group the nations of Africa together as one is incredibly naive.

So how's the name gonna work? if they are called the United States of Africa(USA), I think it would be pretty easy to confuse them with a certain other country from america.

So here is my thoughts on why it doesn't work:
While Egypt, Libya, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco would work, the rest of Africa is a shithole. In most countries in the Central African area, there are genocides, mass murders, terrorists, and countries that claim to be democracies are just dictatorships. It won't work simply because such nations in Central Africa are in just a shit state, that actually attempting to put them together as one country is a silly idea. While I support the idea of a United Africa, I don't believe that it should unite now. Maybe 50 years in the future, or whenever the hell all the baddies die.

I don't see it working as Africa is just too diverse to become one nation.
