So for quite some time, a majority of members in the EU parliament has been for a tax on currency transactions. The proposal is coming along slowly,(as everything else in the EU) but at the moment, the tax will be on around 0.5% . The income from the tax is widely disputed and estimates range from 100-300 billion dollars a year. Another supposed benefit from the tax is that it will regulate the huge and volatile speculation market, and thus avoid another financial crisis, or at least make it less likely. I want to hear your opinion on a currency tax. Should we not implement it, is the Tobin tax exactly what the EU needs, or should we go even further? What effect will this have on the global economy, and will it hurt the financial sector significantly? If you want to read more about the Tobin tax before posting: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/tobin-tax http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobin_tax
can anyone tell me any EU brilliant grand schemes to save their economy which have actually worked cause my oppinion on the EU is that it is not different from what the Nazis wanted only the EU is a slower and safer route to global domination.
I'd support it for the speculation control, rather than the revenue. However, I really don't see how it would stop speculation.
