^It's people like him who make me proud to be in america, because you know when someone can be that hateful then freedom of speech is doing well.

Thank you hateful ignorant people you make me proud to be an american because you can say what you want to say, I'm still going to call you an idiot and your going to throw the bible in my face but by all means you can do that.

My point is that marriage is not a religious institution, but a societal one and therefore the government has the right to intervene should it be necessary.

That's true, marriage is not only a religion institution, and that's why you have civil marriage. Were government can intervene if necessary.
But if government intervenes on a religious belief and practice, its denying freedom of religion. Its as stupid/shameful as the banning of Burqa in France.

Personally I don't think the government should tell a religious institution that should be forced to marry gay people, though I am 100% in favor of gay marriage seeing how it effects me and some people I know.

No one is talking about forcing priests to marry gay people. All we're talking about is ensuring that same sex marriages have the same legal rights and benefits as heterosexual ones. Whether or not a non-existent deity gives it assent or not is unimportant to me.

Marriage is a patriarchal institution to enslave women.

Yes, nobody is talking about forcing. Like I said in my first post in this thread:"I don't give a shit, because the church decides this, not the government" I never said anything otherwise, I was only responding to you:"The argument that marriage is a religious institution is a silly one. If that were the case then why me as an atheist am able to get married just fine. Heck I could sacrifice goats and pray to the devil everyday and a Christian priest would still marry me."

correct me if I am wrong, but us citizen who marry in a church get some benefits, right? Then isn't it stupid to push gay marriages in crushes so that they could get those benefits too. Because the simplest way would be, to give those same benefits to civil marriage couples.

You can get married where ever you want to get married. But I hate the idea that marriages preformed in churches by a priest are the only "real" marriages.

"gay people are gay", is a splendid stereotype, enforced by continuously seeing gay men on media that are quite jolly to say the least :p

If he was a gay person saying that Christians are evil, or sinful, or should be punished, he would be beaten half to death by the police, and thrown in jail.

My god, this is terrible! We must warn the gay community at once.
    Edit:
You know full well that that sort of person believes that it's those who criticise homosexuality who are thrown in jail, in the name of equality and political correctness.

But if you follow a certain faith, that form of marriage probably is, at least to that individual, the correct form of marriage.

The "Traditional Marriage" is where a man owns several wives as property. Modern day marriage is more or less a legal agreement that should simply just apply to common households instead of "marriage".
