Christopher Hitchens was a clever guy who tackled religion for example, from an area in which he was well versed namely a socio-political effects as opposed to trying some philosophy like Dawkins & then failing miserably. He is a fine journalist generally, outspoken on various issues & not scared to say his opinion & always ready to back it up. Some of the things that he said could be taken as incredibly negative however, I feel that he is more the victim of over-reactions. He was a great journalist, a good debater & will be sadly missed in the UK & USA especially although with the internet I don't doubt it is now all over the world!

Charismatic to say the least, he was so good debater, its told he "converted" a priest that came and see Hitchens in he's dead bed.

Most of he's life, he was a huge asshole on religious matters. Near the end you can see in the interviews he came closer to agnosticism which is interesting.

He was completely unimportant and irrelevant in history. In 20 years he will be a fading memory. In 200 no one will know who he was. Ironic, as well, because while his legacy will be short lived at best, the legacy of Christ will live on forever and ever in spite of all his attempts to destroy it.

I dont think his point was to destroy it, it was to debunk it through science and evidence and to make sure we didnt fall into the same pattern as we have in the past. Lets not forget one of his heros was Thomas Jefferson who supported freedom of religion. Hitchens said it himself "people who believe in god do truly believe in god" and I dont think his legacy will diminish he was one of the most influential writers and orators and critics of the last couple decades.

Debunk, destroy, same thing. Anyway, why would he want to avoid those same patterns if he didn't hate them? If he hates something and he's actively trying to sway people away from it, it only follows that he wants it removed. To remove religion would be to destroy religion. Thus my statement is true.

And one my heroes is Napoleon Bonaparte and Napoleon Bonaparte supported France dominating the World. I suppose that means I support a French Empire as well?

And people who support their Neo-Nazi parties truly believe in their Neo-Nazi parties. It doesn't mean I hate Neo-Nazism any less, it's merely an acknowledgement that they believe it.

Yes, just like the countless influential writers, orators, and critics from the early and mid 1900s that we don't remember. Or go back earlier. How many great Roman Writers do you remember? 1? 2? Maybe 5 if you're experienced on the subject.

No, his legacy will be dead within 200 years at the most. Probably less.

He was a detestable polemicist, and the only people who like him are neo-cons and anti-theists. Quite the odd combination of supporters, I know, but the basic attraction seems to be that he was an extremely prolific asshole, especially towards Muslims.

No it doesn't. I'm a dinosaur, I should know. "Rawr" means "I am hungry". Then again, our language doesn't cover much more than "I'm hungry" and "Wanna have sex?".

Don't worry, we have such a complex grammar for such a small language, it's easy to get confused.
