This actually made me curious so I texted a couple of my friends on birth control. None of them had to pay for their birth control. Apparently you can obtain birth control free of charge in Canada, at least in BC it might be different in other provinces, until you are 22.

I think that's a pretty good compromise all things considered. That you can get free birth control through your teen years when you know the least about sex and also have the least amount of money, but then as you grow older you can make more informed choices and hopefully have more money to actually afford the birth control.

Though in terms of what's best for society and not so much concerned with abstract and principled notions as what's "fair" in this circumstance or how "my freedoms are being violated" it's far better if birth control is available to as many people for as little cost as possible.

Consider that we already have way too many people on the planet as it is, do we really need anymore? Also if these women are having unwanted pregnancies that is going to cost the tax payer much more than giving out a few pills in the long run. Lastly from a more selfish stand point I certainly enjoy my sexual encounters more then if I'm constantly worrying about "oh no am I gunna get this girl pregnant." Don't you?

    i agree.
it shouldnt be covered by health care anymore than condoms or hair transplants.
if people want to have sex, thats fine by me, just dont try to make me pay for your condoms.

edit. what stalin said is a pretty good idea, that you get birth control untill you are 22.
wich means less teenage pregnancy wich is pretty much an epidemic in the uk.

    government funded birth control?

And what did my old school district get? A bowl of condoms in the counselors office and pamphlets on self restraint, I swear to god at a lecture in the auditorium they gave us a sermon about Rape, how 50% of high school males contemplate raping a classmate with 15% actually following through, don't ask me how they got the statistics but I absolutely hated the Los Angeles school district after that thank god I transferred out for my senior year.

psst. As far as I know, every school does that. It's called a scare tactic. You're over emotional.

The only argument that made me sort of change my mind on this was this documentary I watched where this guy I showed that when abortion is made socially acceptable in a state, about 15-20 year's later the crime rates plummet. So I guess providing birth control to the poor might result in lower crime rates ? But I'm still against free birth control.

One thing I could abide I guess is increased budget for sexual education classes or something. Just to make sure all kids fully understand what they're getting into and where they can purchase birth control .

I think that if sex wasn't such a weird christian taboo in western nations we would be able to communicate with our children more openly about it and our kids wouldn't be so awe struck by the idea of it. It's almost like rebellion how kids have sex. Forbidden fruit.

What a horrible idea, we should make you pay for it right away.
