They did a so-called 'u-turn' over the 'pasty tax'. As well as pretty much everything else in the Budget. I can see why these guys had 'time for change' as a campaign slogan. I didn't say they didn't, but then we pay for that in the end anyway.
Really? Name me a time when the lives of ordinary people in Britain were better than they are now. (Naming a time in the last 15 years is cheating)
The Diamond Jubilee doesn't have any effect on the quality of life, I fail to see how this is a valid argument.
Well, you were saying times were bad. I was saying times are better than they ever have been before. In my opinion of course.
It's because C_G was saying that it's a distraction from how shit things are. So it's therefore a diversion from the falling quality of life, rather than affecting directly. Unless of course you happen to sell BNP flags or horrible mugs and plates for which you 'send no money now'
I see, that makes more sense. Speaking of flags, the only one's I've seen recently are Scottish flags, with the occasional garland of union flags. I wonder why that is.
By that logic you guys should ban all holidays, stop all sporting events and cancel all TV shows besides the news because they are distractions from how shitty everything is.
So, what's your point? I hope you're not seriously comparing trench warfare to whatever terrible problems we have nowadays. Of course I understand there are things wrong with society, there are things I would want changed, but it just confuses me when people refuse to see what a good world and country we live in today.
I was only outlining what someone else's argument might or might not have been. I think the 'distraction' is how it puts other more significant agendas to one side more than anything else. Ultimately there's nothing wrong with it, it's just very cynical, if you believe this is the purpose of the jubilee of course. Still, put this way, no-one gave a flying piece of bunting when the Queen had her Golden Jubilee 10 years ago. That might be the best picture of Nick Griffin I have ever seen. His face is almost symmetrical!
It confuses me when people refuse to see what world we really live in. 7 billion people live on this planet, 1% of those people controled about 40% of the worlds wealth in the year 2000. 50% of the world's population controled as little as 1.1% of the world's population. Still convinced there is nothing wrong with the world we live in? There are more statistics I can find, if you want.
Well of course not, but we can't let our flag be hi-jacked by people such as them. It is our duty as citizens to re-establish our national flag as something that can be flown by respectable people. Not crazy nationalists, just people grateful for the country that we live in.
Well isn't this a "big" thing because it's the first time since Queen Victoria, that you guys have had a diamond jubilee.
