Some people think they're the same some people think they are two seperate words with different meaning(me being one of those people) what do you guys think is there a difference between a person who is highly intelligent, vs a person who is full of wisdom? Me personally, I think there is, Intelligence is something you can acquire through studies and school in general(depending on your country's education quality) Wisdom is something that is not so easily acquired and you rarily see it in young people, True Wisdom is something obtained from living a long life, learning from mistakes, evolving, and becoming a better person for it, after you have lived a long life and done all these things only then in my opinion can you acquire wisdom.

I have seen some intelligent people still make alot of mistakes and I have seen people with wisdom make idiot decisions. They can mean the same but be entirely different like how ice and water can be made out of the same thing but still be different. The environment can also have a big effect, like being born intelligent but being raised in abusive environment and lose at on a lot of opportunitys to make yourself smarter, like be born rich and be really educated but you can still be a dumb ass. It even amazes me even the I never got to go to regular high school for many years and still be able to graduate from a normal high school and still beable to type this. Intelligence and wisdom may be differnt things, but in the end they become the same thing.

Wisdom is what you know. Intelligence is how well you learn and what you can learn. Wisdom is gained through extensive experience and knowledge, that's why elders have always been looked up to. A young person can be quite intelligent however. So yes, they are different things but they often go hand in hand.

It's not very intelligent, or wise to think that intelligence and wisdom are the same thing.

I would say that intelligence is the ability of an individual to learn and retain knowledge, while wisdom is the ability of the individual to use what knowledge he or she possesses correctly.

Are Intelligence and Wisdom the Same Thing* - My history teacher seems to make the same mistake every single sentence, it is the most annoying thing ever.

Anyway, not they're not. Intelligence is a natural ability, it is the opposite of a stupid person. Note that a stupid need not know anything, but rather not know why the know what they know. An intelligent person, knows why they know what they know and why it is important to know it. Wisdom comes from experience in life, and the application of their intelligence. A wise person can't be stupid.

    Wisdom makes Intellegence
    Intelligence doesn't make Wisdom.
    There you go.

I like to think intelligence as school smarts while wisdom is common sense.

Intelligence is an umbrella term of which Wisdom is a part of.

How can intelligence make wisdom? Here's a counter example to your statement. Yoda from Star Wars shows a lot of wisdom by training Luke. He tells him a lot about the Dark Side and the Force which comes from the experiences he has learned from the past. He does not tell him that he learned everything that he did from the force by reading a book. Like @C_G said, Wisdom comes from experience. Here is another example: a man may pass an English test on The Odyssey without reading a single page, but he will not truly experience the story until he has read the book. Do you see what I mean?

Here is a scene from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

    You're referencing Yoda?

Also, I never said Intelligence made Wisdom. I said Wisdom made Intelligence, but it is only a part of what makes someone an intelligent person.

Alright, you should have said that in your original statement then.

Well there are diffrent ways of learning things, if i'd seperate them in two i would say you have:
    - Imprinting, learning stuff through seeing things happen and remember their outcome, thus knowing what the outcome of actions are from experience

    - Experimentation, learning things by trying new things, and adapting information to new problems

The first requires a good memory and leads to wisdom

The second requires intelligence and can lead to wisdom, but often just leads to direct progress.

To explain my point of view on this matter, I will provide a parable.

A subsistence farmer and a commercial farmer go to a bar. both of them know how to farm in its basics, and they recognise each other as farmers. they start talking, but soon realize that they both do things very differently, the subsistence farmer makes sure by using the right kind of fertilizer and soil conitions that each plant is as tasty and nourishing as possible, while the commercial farmer uses a different kind of fertilizer and soil to make sure that there are more plants for him to sell. Both of them learned from a book how to plant and grow crops, that is their intelligence. but because of their different circumstances they have independently made adjustments in their own methods to better suit them, this is knoledge they aquired themselves or "wisdom"

You can't be wise without being intelligent.
