LOL at all the gushing about the monarchy on the media. Man, I wish Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth continued.
Well for all the talking of 'tradition' and 'culture' from royalists, we wouldn't have a commonwealth or the Union Flag without it.
Well I feel it's more in keeping with today's British culture than the more Catholic tendencies of the 'Cavaliers'. Obviously I don't associate Royalists with Catholics, but if the Elizabethan settlement established a left/right scale for the sake of argument, the Royalists would lean towards the more Catholic-esque side; the Jacobites had a lot of Catholic support I think (we have bishops and cathedrals in the Church of England for example because of them)
Possibly, but my main point was that you can't idolise someone (Cromwell) when I doubt you would like him any more than the monarchy. Also, of course, he passed his role onto his son, which in essence makes him no different to them.
I personally don't idolise Cromwell, but rather the system of government he created which was essentially republican in nature. Also, Cromwell seemed more like a military dictator than anything else, the transfer of power wasn't hereditary.
Perhaps, but fortunately I am not an atheist. More a staunch agnostic, if that were possible. I also suspect you would have little in common with the people who restored the monarchy. Probably just monarchism, same as republicanism would be about the only thing I have in common with the Parliamentarians. And people say this monarchical island that ruled over a quarter of the world has always been a bastion of democracy with no place for dictatorship!
Did he not pass it on to his son? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Cromwell You're right there, I guess. I also wish to share in your staunch agnosticism, I don't believe anyone who tells me he knows the answers, whether priest or scientist.
Nominating your son to follow you is not at all different from it being hereditary. In fact, it's actually the same thing.
Well that was a inspiring diamond jubilee. It made me proud of my country. I'm proud to be British, and I'm sure the commonwealth must feel proud too.
Fuck off, seriously. It is now obvious that you are doing this to troll. It is just obvious, take your appreciation to someplace that actually shares your enthusiasm. Same goes for any other monarchists.
C_G, don't like it? don't read it. I was just voicing my opinion on it. I wrote it in that font because it looks neater. I wrote my first paragraph like that too.
I still think more people are going to be interested in the Euro 2012 than the Jubilee, but that's just my opinion.
hehe.. That's what we aim for, now you can all come here to see the Royals, and spend lots of money of course.
