I agree with you Sly. I think it would be horrible, but everyone knows how the Victorian Age ends. I don't think CA will be able to control themselves based on the direction the games have been heading. I would really like to see a Rome 2, or maybe something completely new. Unfortunately it doesn't look like its heading that way.
You guys all seem to think WW1 was ALL trench warfare. Look it up, in 1914 the fighting was very fluid on all fronts. After that, it obviously turned to a stalemate on the Western front. BUT, on the Eastern Front, and often in the Carpathians and Italian Front, as well as the Ottoman front (except Gallipoli) it was fluid throughout the entire war, and fought similar to the way wars were before, just with new weapons. I don't think a WW1 total war would be bad at all. However, it would take away from the whole total war spirit, as Rom said. So, perhaps CA might want to do a WW1 total war, but I wouldn't consider it a part of the series as a whole, because it would have been so different. All that said, we need Rome 2 and some other total wars from that period, I'm getting sick of the gunpowder weapons.
Yeah, I like to see enemy formations blown apart by cannon blasts. With that said, everyone knows that WWI just wouldn't work.
Until CA manages to make the AI you know, have a clue what its doing, they should stay away from gunpowder weapons. They would probably make a Victorian era from 1850-1880.
I want it as much as you do, but sadly we will have to probably wait til 2014. However, I am scared for a Rome 2. Too many people are just asking for the same thing as Rome Total War but better graphics. If they make a Rome Total War, I want a lot more realism, mostly because there will not be any EB or RTR or RS2 teams modifying it because its steam. Some simple things I want added... More realistic siege battles. Not just hurr durr I am gonna siege you for 5 years until you march out of the city without and fighting beforehand. Logistics system. This could be so incredibally easy to implement. Simple idea. If you are in an enemy territory and you don't have a clear line of supply (i.e. enemies blocking roads behind your men), or if you are in another territory without military acces (and they could add an option in the diplomacy screen saying feed soldiers or something), then your men take attrition. Camillian, Polybian, Marian, and Imperial reforms for Romans. (other reforms needed for other factions) Emerging nations Some scripted historical events. Naval Battles Let your units garrison in allied cities to defend. This has always pissed me off with total war, yet it is so fucking simple.
Wait you seriously think that is why the newer total war games don't have nearly as much modding as before?
Well I over simplified it. Its because the way they make the games, they are extremely hard to change major stuff. (like maps and factions and the like) which is the entire reason EB did M2TW for EB2 instead of Empire. Also, CA releases so many new DLC's at random points, adding units and factions and the like is a big risk. Another thing I want if they make a Rome 2 is every faction playable.
I honestly think it would be cool, if they released a Total war game that had the whole world on it. and you started in the ancient days of rome and such. Then worked your way up all the way through the modern age. Or how ever far they could do it correctly.
But the Civ series is completely different from Total war. I would like a game that use's Total war's campaign style. And the way I look at it is hey they've done a variety of different time periods now. So what's stopping them ? It would be cool to go from Roman legionarys, to Musketmen. And build a huge lasting empire through out that time.
I dont think it would be practical though. Mostly because everyone who doesnt like to just play a laid back campaign, conquer the map in at most 200 years.
It would be very impractical, and it's better to save campaigns that take millennia for games like Civ that, while it has its flaws, are more fit for that job.
Even so, they're are people who still play long campaigns, and if they do include the entire world it would take awhile to take over. How is it impractical ? All they'd have to do is make every turn a year or more and start in the B.C. ages. then introduce technology as it come's along and make it available for research. Rome did something like this with the Marian reforms. and Medieval and shogun did it with gunpowder. Heck with Fall of the samurai, it show's us what it would be like to fight a army that isn't as advanced as you, in multiplayer. I could see it working in single player.
I've seen people take over the EB map in 50 years. The EB map is about twice the size of Rome and would have just as many provinces (knowing how undetailed CA likes to make their maps) as the whole world campaign.
Yeah but rome is insanely easy compared to all the other total war games. The roman faction's them self's have superior units. And the Ai is just stupid. Now Shogun's Ai ain't much better seeing how they think they can suicide climb a castle all the time. But still trying to beat the game on legendary is hard. Edit: Especially with stuff like realm divide.
Because declining nations, emerging nations and border changes are near impossible to model in the standard TW engine, I'd imagine.
Oh, not at all emerging nation's happened in Empire if certain requirement's were meant. Heck they even had a Quebec nation, if france died but still had territory in Canada. Scotland and I think Ireland could arise if they rebelled. Declining nation's would happen naturally rebellions and being attacked and annexed. And border changes could be sort of event, or they could simply leave it to the flow of the game. I also think it would be kind of cool if they had event's. Like let's say you own Italy. at a certain time you could end up getting Caesar as once of your general's but after a while he would rebel and try to take over Italy and make himself Emperor. Or if you own Scotland, William Wallace could appear sort of how they did in Kingdoms.
EB wasnt insanely easy, it was actually difficult. Emerging factions were pretty terrible in Empire imo. And how would you include cities being destroyed, and new cities being founded, empires dying and new ones taking their place? You can only have so many emergent factions.
