Ugh, I explained why this would be the best option on the other thread if you wanna go check it out. Syria is not ich in natural resources. If you cut off trade with them, eventually, the regime will fall. Yes people would starve, but its better than thousands of more people dying for a cause that will never succeed if there isnt some form of international intervention, trade sanctions being the safest and most succcessful.

Also, it might bring Asaad to the negotiating table, to stop the fighting, or maybe to get a voluntary exit once he realizes its futile.

Did you notice my other post?
"When you are a government trying to control your population you make sure your soldiers are the BEST fed people in the country. That's just basic strategy, this shit has been in practice since Rome or Sun Tzu. Unless of course the leader thinks his men fight because of his righteous ideology? HAH"

The soldiers will be the last to go hungry, therefore all the rebels are still going to die and we also get to starve innocents as well. After the region is stabilized we lift the trade sanctions and nothing has changed but thousands of corpses.

While it would make it harder for him to win from what I have heard he is still winning by a LONG shot . If the army can't get resources neither can the rebels and when people start starving the rebels will have to loot civlian properties even more to survive which would give rise to resentment .

I like how everybody is ignoring Bahrain, which is basically a dictatorship in a similar situation to Syria. Except the US is allied with it's king, so it's getting no media attention, and the government is being supplied with US weapons.

Ok. But Bahrain isn't having a revolution/rebellion right now, so maybe that's part of the reason that it's not getting media attention.

There were mass protests in Bahrain even before international support for the Libyan rebels.

Not on the scale as Syria, but still very bloody. Currently, there is martial law in the country, and I think the death count lay in the tens of thousands (Don't quote me on that though.). The reason why it isn't getting any media attention is because they are a US ally, the weapons and gas that they are using against the rebels/protestors is being supplied by the US.
