So I've been thinking. The leaders of the major Western powers in Europe (I don't really know anything about Japan or China) in WW2 are seen as the greatest leaders of their respective countries. Churchill was chosen as the greatest Brittish, I'm not sure about De Gaulle but I assume he ends up high in France, Stalin is I believe in the top 10 greatest Russians and FDR is in the top of the greatest presients. Hitler was banned from an election to determine the greatest German but I think the only person that might be greater than him was Bismarck. The only person I really don't know anything about is Mussolini. How is he seen in Italy? Is he also one of the great Italians just like the others are of their countries or is he considered to be a failure? Or maybe he is just one of many generic rulers?
If Mussolini wasn't such an egocentric asshole Italy would have been a better place look the industrial feats they made pre WW2 Mussolini was a genius and unfortunately he knew it.
Mussolini was hated, his own people lynched him in the street if I remember correctly. But don't take it from me, take it from an Italian like @Daddy92. Also, as for the Japanese leaders (don't know about China), of course the Emperor Hirohito was, is, and always will be revered. I'm not sure how much role the Emperor actually took in leadership though. I believe the prime minister Konoe was well liked. I don't know about Tojo, but I'm pretty sure he isn't a hero or anything. Perhaps @Imperial1917 could tell us more about the Chinese leaders. Of course Mao was one, and I believe the other was Chiang Kai Shek (spelled something like that).
Dude, have you ever spoken to someone from former Yugoslavia? Everyone I've met from there seems to practically worship the guy.
My bad that's a typo. Its supposed to be Tojo, not Tito. I love Tito, its a pity his country fell apart after his death.
No wait, I thought he, after being desposed by the king, was shot by Italian Communists. Unless the Italian Communists were the Illumanti.
Back when mussolini took power ,he was loved by the people because he knew how to speak to the "belly" of the italians (he was a big demagog) so few dared to oppose him, many flew to other countries while others were arrested and then deported or killed. Italians are famous for being passionate, kind and laid-back people but we re also opportunists ,we change our minds very easily if something doesnt go as planned .This is what happened when the allies kicked our asses out of nord africa, many italians realized that we were losing the war and from that moment they started to hate Mussolini for bringing the war to our door-step and for being responsible of all those deaths, and when the war (in Italy) ended most of the italians joined the side of the winners and called them liberators. Even Churchill said "Strange people these italians. There were 45 million of fascists before the war and now(at the end of the war) there are 45 million partisans, and according to the census there re only 45 million italians in the country."
In America, probably as hated as Hitler, but he didn't do mass genocide or anything unless I am to be corrected, but he was with the Axis, labeling him a bad guy almost immediately in this culture.
The majority of the italians hates him ,they know what he did to our country, and we dont want that to happen again .While a small group of italians thinks that he was doing a good job, until he declared war on the allies ,and that is nonsense because he wasnt doing anything good except arresting/deporting/killing his own people.
Hmm, so he's not considered to be one of the great Italians. Ok, my questions have been answered. Now it is allowed to bitch about Mussolini in this thread
One of the great italians............... no seriously where did you hear that from ? Cause he s the one that bringed this nation on the edge of a cliff and then pushed it off .
I didn't hear it anywhere but the WW2 leaders are generally considered to be among the greatest leaders of their countries but I didn't know what the opinion about Mussolini was. I expected that he wouldn't be very popular.
