In real life the west coast is really well defended you can ask @Romulus211. There is hilly urban areas beach landing's defended by mountains and artillary. During ww2 Major citys were really well defended by anti air craft guns. The population can easly trained withen a week by the marines to shoot guns and stuff like that. even if you take the west coast there is nothing but desert till you reach other states, which also would leave your troops open to the air force to have a turky shoot with your millitary convoys. Go right ahead and invade the west coast, it would be a pleasure to use your troops corpses to fertilize a Californian vineyard.
