We call that mitigation. Basically the jury / judge weighs his upbringing, mental culpability, remorse, etc, against the crime itself when determining sentencing. The theory is it doesn't take away the fact the criminal committed a horrible act, but there is a difference between a guy like Charles Manson, and a guy with a 40 IQ who's barely aware of his actions at the time.

It does, but it sounded like you were implying that everyone who is sexually assaulted becomes an assaulter. Which is simply not true. There are a hell of a lot of cases that are not reported because the kids are too afraid to speak up. Sexual assault is a serious problem in the first world, in my opinion worse than regular crime because sometimes it doesn't leave a mark on the victim and if the victim doesn't speak up then they will not be helped.

Rot in hell, Sandusky. You've gotten what you deserve.

Good, anyone who could do that to a little kid deserves the harshest of punishments. He won't last long in jail, they despise child molesters in there.

Being his lawyer must have been interesting.

More like revolting. It would not be fun to take that case.

Though he still deserves the right to a fair trial and a lawyer. No matter how sick he is.

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that it would be a nightmare of a case to have to work on.

Indeed though I more respect for the lawyer who takes up the case of the bad guy.

I think 225 is a bit more reasonable time on being paroled.

If he ever did get out with parole (no matter how unlikely) then I believe somebody, possibly one of the molested kids or one of their relatives, would kill the guy. And I would clap and cheer.
