My numbers are around 13,000 vs. 12,000 savages but my men are far between equipped and have far greater tactics. My nation is well. Expansion fairs decently. I suppose what I need is more manpower but that will come in time.

Remember, you have to play as barbarians would. Probably not going to pull any super duper complex tactics or anything. Also remember that we're fighting on the flat and open steppe. My 6,000 slaves armed with spears and shitty shields move forward while my 7,000 riders (broken up into two equal parts) take each flank. The riders maintain and air of separation from the battlefield, though closer to a cobra waiting to strike than anything else.
I don't even think the Greeks where that democratic at the time, heck my elected monarchy is pretty revolutionary.
