Could someone please expplain to me why Ronald Reagan is worshipped by the Replucan Party. I mean in m0dern terms he'd be a liberal. He helped save social security with the Greenspain Commision, he granted amnesty to illegal immigrants, he actually made deals with the Communists and Islamci Extremists, is partly responsible for the War on Terror. Given all this wouldn't the Republicans try and distant themselves from him like what the Democrats did with Carter.

Um, that doesn't mean he isn't a Republican. That means they aren't as Conservative as they thought they were.

Reagan was a reformer. He redid the Party's Beliefs & how Republicans operated. You can't say that Republicans today can't count him as an ally because he set the tone for them. If anything they aren't like him. For God's sake have you ever heard of a Reagan Democrat? That is how much power Reagan had.

He wasn't a Liberal my ANY means, because hence forth what he did were the beliefs of the Republican Party & by extension Republican. The argument that really needs to be made is at what point during GWB, etc did the GOP Establishment fuck up everything Reagan stood for. That is what I want to know. Even better, how can we get back.

The reason modern Republicans that are nothing like Reagan tout him it just because shit got done back then. They want to say they were apart of that. Abe Lincoln is a similar situation.

Lincoln was the first Republican President. Like I said he set the tone. That simply means the Republican Party was or should have been Liberal up until Reagan reformed it. That is how it works. Republicans up til Reagan, simply weren't true Republicans then.

Look, Lincoln was BORDERLINE SOCIALIST. If I ever heard a Republican try to say their party is good because of Abe Lincoln I'd laugh and cry at the same time, and then inform them in the harshest of terms how stupid they are.

The reason I say this is that today Republicans site Reagan as their inspiration but also site themselves as Conservatives. Given the issues ot todays politics they should be putting Reagan alongside Bush or Hoover as one of the great failures of the republican party.

Brother I am with you 100%. Many of them act nothing like Reagan & only bring him up because things were good. They couldn't care less about how they got good, they just like to sight someone with an (R) in front of there name do good things. They think by extension they can do good things just because they got that (R).

@Skyicewolf Well yeah. Considering he reformed the party & that means the ideal Republican would share this views that is fair to say.

Not to be rude, but I am just going say it once to not derail the thread. I believe his record & views on a majority of the issues best resemble my own.

Because he saved the economy, stopped the enemy everywhere they went, and made the Democrats the laughing stock of the nation.

And he was a good speaker to boot.

Edit: In the eyes of the Republicans, I mean to say.

Most people I know glorify him to know end.

Infact I would say the glorification of Reagan is on par with the level of annoyance of communist and their beloved Lenin.
