Yes, well the cuban missile crisis did influence it. You know.. the shit with missiles with nuclear heads pointed at US.

A big reason it was really heated was that we had missiles in Turkey as well, making it an atomic Mexican standoff.

It's about time the US stopped having a hissy fit and finally traded with Cuba. This shit dating from the beginning of the cold war has gotten old, fast.

Yes indeed, but I fail to see your point. It didn't start because of your missiles in turkey for Christ sake, if that what you meant. Nikita thought that after the failed invasion of Cuba and Castro seeking friends, sort of speak. He thought Cuba would make a excellent missile launching-pad which would narrow the gap in nuclear capability between the nations. The Americans first suggested about the turkey missile drawn not the russkies, further evidence that they didn't mind that at first, their real motive was a strategic one. Many times during the crisis Nikita insisted that he s motive was simply to defend Cuba. Also you know what really heated the shit? The fact that once all soviet missiles were in place, it was estimated, only 15% US strategic forces would survive a soviet attack. You know what else heated things? When Kennedy made the blockade and sent the ultimatum. Nikita sent 6 atomic bombs for il-28 bombers already on Cuba, along with 4 subs armed with nuclear weapons.

Thank god these two nations knew how to play chicken. If both swerve, nobody wins, but nobody gets to call the other chicken, preventing M.A.D (I hope you have heard the Bertrand Russells chicken nuclear theory, otherwise this is awkward)

Fun fact: according to Ernesto Che Guevara when Castro heard of the compromise "he swore, kicked the wall and smashed a looking class"

Cool, how long until we get to mercilessly exploit the Cubans again? I can't wait to sit in a fancy hotel playing poker and smoking a Cuban cigar while 15 miles from there a man is dying of an easily preventable disease on a sugar plantation.

    Good times.

Cuba doesn't seem that bad with living conditions... its literacy rate is higher than ours and its infant mortality rate is lower than most devoloped nation.

Fianlyl after years trade between us can begin! To think that we could influence them by putting an embargo on them. I guess we didn't think that other countries would want those cuban cigars.

A Churchill long draw cigar would be equivalent to that of a Cohiba Lancero (Fidel's favorite cigar)
