Linking to pirated applications and saying how to get them are against the rules.

The two don't match up in my opinion. The rule strictly prohibits pirating. The rule strictly prohibits the illegal download of copyrighted games. It doesn't prohibit linking to piracy or helping people to pirate. I think it needs to be amended and bring clarification to the issue as I'm not sure how anyone could possibly pirate on this forum.

This is a silly issue. Anyone with any sort of common sense could understand that encompasses assisting in piracy.

What if you link to a open file sharing website to spread your own artwork? Would that be removed just based on the Website itself or is based on the purpose of the link?

A file sharing site does not necessarily equal piracy, so I would imagine that would be fine.

You could post a link to a torrent of "Night of the Living Dead" for example since that movie is not copyrighted.

    Two questions,
    1) Is that movie any good?
    2) Is it on YouTube?

If both are yes I might want to watch it.

It's the granddaddy of all zombie movies, made by none other than George A. Romero

    And yes, it's on youtube:

All I ask is that the rule is clarified i.e. simply replacing it with what Observer said.

Well if you want to get all technical about it discussion of actual pirating techniques is prohibited under the speech section because it's conspiracy.

Is it too much to ask that the rule is made clearer like what Observer said? Surely it's a quick thing to do.

It seems like he just wants it to be reworded. For our slow/new members ofc.

IMO I think it's fine as is. Not sure how things have been going down in the past few weeks, however in the past if there was ever a question of clarification the staff has erred on the side of caution. Borderline issues we tend to issue a non infraction based verbal warning. If anything questionable is decided upon we issue lengthy decisions which clarify the rules and how we enforce them. I know we were (not sure if this has happened yet) working on making these decisions public under the guise of transparency.

Also, I think threads like this are great, and you can always pm a mod to clarify things.
