Ooooh kiddies we have a surprise for you today; a new forum has been created for the express purpose of facilitating formal, structured debates! Initially we thought of this as a 1-on-1 debate forum, and indeed you can, but it's now also the arena for tag-team showdowns of intellectual prowess. Ideologues beware: you might very well have to stand toe to toe with someone who has more than rhetoric!

Anyways, for the purpose of facilitating a more formal debate environment, we have to lay down a few ground rules:

    1. Only the recognized debaters may post in the debate thread. Each debate thread will be paired with a discussion thread that the commoners might rant in, but any posts made in a debate thread without permission are subject to immediate deletion by the staff.

    2. There will be a poll conducted at the conclusion of each debate to determine the victor.

    3. Subject material can be anything, but the debate itself has to adhere to some sort of formal structure. What that structure is is up to the debaters, but you might take some ideas from the FIRST DEBATE EVAR:

THEISTS V. ATHEISTS: GOD, DOES HE EXIST?

On the theist team so far we've got myself and matthewchris, on the atheist team it's just fucking faggot for now but it's open to invitation. At the moment it looks to be a 2v2 but only time will tell.

The forum will remain invisible for a short while while the particulars are organized regarding rules and such, but we're on the brink here folks, and the edge of the universe never looked so damn good.

I didn't say you were on. fucking faggot has to pick, and I was just saying he had yet to find a team mate.

Also, it might be helpful to have a good understanding of theology, religious philosophy, and know your Holy Books.

I'm sure by "Toran" you meant "Torah" and "Koran".
And I am not familiar with most of those...

I generally dont like these kinds of structured debates as they often devolve into people talking besides eachother instead of actually debating man to man, but we'll see how it turns out.

Also I dont think a general vote is the ideal way to determine the winner of a debate as people tend to simply favor the person that holds their views instead of the person that had the best argumentation. A jury, which could provide an extended motivation for their choice could be better in minimising this kind of behaviour.
