My friend Karl hates the rich. He believes them all to be lying, cheating, scum. He think that they are only a leech to society. Any thoughts? I personally believe that there are those who only live to increase their wealth and that they are bad. But I have met extremely wealthy people who I generally like and believe to be good. There is a different philosophy between the Upper and Lower classes though, which to a lower middle class citizen like me can seem to reek of ignorance and a sense of privilege over others. But because they seem that way doesn't mean that the person believes it. So what do you guys think?
Interesting fact, Philanthropic organizations (that is to say rich people's benevolance) have contributed more money towards drug research and development (79%) then the private sector, the public sector, and the un combined (21%) Not that this fact alone means the rich are all benevolent good people, but it's easy to make the case that there are plenty of good people in the bunch. Arguments for rich people is that in order to obtain their wealth they generally have to bring innovation to the world and work hard. Sometimes this comes at the expense of others but generally their work elevates the whole rather then disenfranchises minorities. Without rich people we wouldn't have many of the comforts of our modern life, and without the drive for wealth society would be a very different place. How many people would go to university if they didn't think it would get them a better job or earn them more money in the long run?
Good point. Whether or not they are evil is besides the point; the rich are a necessary part of society. The main reason that many people view the rich are "evil" is because of the class difference not because they have harmed them. And think: Wouldn't you like to be rich?
Very true. There is "evil" people who do not care for some ones well being, but for profits. Healthcare industry is perfect excample. "Oh you dont have the money *Throws patient out of car* see you later, buddy" But like you said they are nessesary to create jobs and many of them give donations to diferent people, from schools to aid africans in hunger. Essentialy its very 50/50 and depends on person him/her self.
All rich people aren't like that it's usually their children who grow up with everything that end up being snobs. One millionaire Robert Herjavec here in Canada he grew up in a very poor house in Croatia and now he has billions and he's nowhere near being a snob.
Well, if you make your fortunes and die rich, its hard to call them evil because they made their money like everyone else just in different way. but their kids i hate because they have a feeling of being in the spotlight even though they don't do anything and people always owe them and the parents don't do anything to stop it except send them to rehab. Oh, and then give them more money.
The issue with these OMG LOL RICH PEOPLE GIVE SO MUCH TO CHARITY is that you have to look at all the money you see left over. Also plenty of people get rich in easier ways, plenty of people do the same hard work and fail. But regardless, rich people aren't evil, they are just class enemy's of most of us.
saying anyone is evil is a pretty ignorant/naive remark. 'Evil' is all about perception and whose morals and virtues you use to judge evil good and all in between. Thus one cant say the rich are evil. The reasons most people view the rich as evil (more back in the Marxist days then now) is either out of jelousy or simple calss disputes. When one is cold and starving and one sees someone prancing around with the most expansive bread money can buy then throw away the crust to just eat the middle one generaly views that person as ignorant, pompous, snoby, and all sorts of bad things which leads one to sumuraise (excuse my speling) that he is evil.
