Okay so the title of this thread is abusive and misleading but it gets your attention no? This is the article: http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/14/health/battery-powered-brain/index.html?hpt=hp_c1 Basically what an experimental procedure did is drill some holes in the volunteers heads and implant some electrodes which supposedly stimulate the part of the brain that leaves people in despair. Ish. I'm not a doctor read the article if you want the details it's quite long and thorough but my question to you forum is this: Do you think this is a practical way to treat clinical depression. Feel free to debate the legitimacy of clinical depression but I will argue with you . It is very real and like all neurotic disorders can destroy peoples lives. Oh and these people did feel a change by the way, their behavior in life changed dramatically after the procedure and some even thought that colours seemed brighter and that kind of thing.
I am depressed and I have been for years but there is no fucking way I would let someone drill holes in my head and stick shit on my brain to cure it.
I am not on board with this procedure being put into widespread practice LOL. Do read the article though, it is interesting.
There is no problem with it in my mind. I think, that as long as more extensive tests are done on people of all ages and both genders, then it is a perfectly reasonable treatment. By no means should it be forced on people, but people should have the option on the table.
