Intentional or not [I personally believe that they didn't know that what they were doing was wrong, but that is another problem], I believe that if the US cannot put out the fire in the Middle East, staying there will just get them burned. That the rest of the Muslim world has apparently no problem with what has happened makes me think that the media is focusing a little too much on the Afghanistan reaction. I am sure that other countries with large Muslim populations are having similar anti - American protests. The image that one is getting now is that staying in Afghanistan is a pretty bleak-looking idea for the US now. From what has been provided, it seems that neither the US nor the Afghani trust each other.
How could they work together, they are burning Korans right in front of them. The statement remains true "Don't mess with the Afghans"
Honestly I am not sure we can repair the damage at this point. Before the korans were burned, we were doing fine. Now though, it seems that afghanistan has turned into a huge clusterfuck, and I don't see how we can repair it.
Totally, after the Quran burning incident, its only caused an uproar amongst the general population of Afghanis including many in the Afghan army. This isn't good for the West, you know burning the Quran is totally going to sort shit out, but in actuality its only going to incite the Muslim world into a sentiment for anti-Americanism.
Who cares? The general consensus seems to be that Afghan security forces are wildly incompetent, like most Middle Eastern forces/security. Once America leaves, it's going to be all glue and popsicle sticks anyway.
Thanks to red tape and false promises, our troops aren't going to go anywhere. We're fighting the people we trained to fight the Soviets and their Afghan allies during the Soviet Intervention in the 70's and 80's who are using those tactics taught to them and learned by themselves against us. The only way this could get anymore ironic is if the CIS was giving the insurgents arms and training behind our backs.
